1968 Syrah from Beaumont-Monteux (southern zone), destemmed, 24 day vinification, manual pumping overs, light cap punching at the end, malo in oak, aged 100% new 228-litre oak casks 12 months, unfined, filtered, 8,000 b


black-purple robe; has an oak top air, with ripe, quite squeezy black fruit under that, comes with pistachio in it, green olive trimmings. The attack is juicy, and it spreads across the glass, with tar, smoke, oak darkness in its late moments. A wine in preparation – it is not there yet, is also a bit mechanical in its making. steady red; cake-brioche bread, yeasty top air, a hint of red fruit. The palate offers mild fruit, lacks cut; a wine in transition, modest wine that shortens. Not in great shape now. From mid-2012. 13°. 2016-17 Nov 2011


wide, violet-scented aroma – the fruit within is cautious, and there is a note of charcoal from the oak. The palate black fruit has the grip of tannin around it, while the malo done in oak comes through, and renders the wine a little plush in its later stages. From 2010, or decant it before then to free it up. 2013-14 March 2009
