Syrah (1960s-1970s) from Pont de l'Isère (south of southern zone), destemmed, 3 week open concrete vat vinification, twice daily cap punchings, pumping overs, steel vat raised 11-2 months, fined, filtered, "drink with slow cooked leg of lamb (8 hours)", 5-7,000 b

dark red. The nose is on the go via an air of red fruits, a sense of iodine also. It will expand and open over the next nine months. The palate holds compressed red fruited juice with tannins closely attached. This requires time to prise it open. There is a fine freshness, and a good, understated structure to hold it together. 14°. 5,000 b. From mid-2017; decanting useful. 2023-24 Oct 2016

2012

(casks) sober, dark plum colour. The nose gives an air of soaked mulberry fruits, has a curvy little sweetness, is supple. The early palate fruit is bright, marked by berries, sets of well, and isn’t far off ready to give straightforward drinking on its medium-weight primary fruit. There is a flavour of sweet-noted raspberry coulis, melted fruit, and some elder berry on the finale. Has a flattering style. 13°. €8.56 ex cellars. 2018-19  Nov 2013

2011

(casks) dark robe. Crisp and crunchy, good, decisive bouquet – it shows juicy black cherry, young and forthright, is promising, has a touch of sizzling bacon. There is a run of suave, sleek Morello black cherry fruit, with pepper trimming, so the palate has life and lift. This holds sound pedigree fruit, is a polished wine. Its oak is settling in. There is a little meat stock on the finish, a deeper note there. Well-made wine. From spring 2014. 2020-21  Nov 2012

2010 ()

(casks) dark robe, bubbles from its raising. Grainy black fruit aroma, has a fresh nature, but is not joined together today. The palate displays scented black fruit, typical Syrah, has a game, of the earth note as well, that adds ballast. It gradually widens across the palate before a straight line conclusion. There are traces of black fruit, tar and violet on the aftertaste. Good depth and length, a gradual developer. Promising, nothing flash. From late 2012. 2018-19 Nov 2011

2009

(vat) bright, full robe. Blackberry fruit aroma on the nose is precise, comes with smoked pork bacon, has extra depth beyond that. Bit leesy right now, needs racking, extra raising and bottling. Supple attack- mulberry liqueur, ample fruit, which tones down passing half way, ends on reserve, a sound couch of nutty tannin. There is tasty fruit at its heart, and the gras also continues nice and fine. From late 2011. 2018-19 Nov 2010
