The Wines

100% Syrah northern sector, wild yeasts, whole bunch 3 week fermentation, pumped over, aged 50% new, 50% 1-2 year old 228-litre oak casks 12 months, unfiltered, made for Kermit Lynch, California, first wine 2010, 600 b

2010

“muddy” red robe with slight evolution, has a healthy, full centre. This has a crunchy, bold fruit aroma with a floral wave across it, with elegant perfume. The palate is meaty, sustained; this is manly Côte-Rôtie, smoky and brooding. I can imagine fissures in the rock here with its old-fashioned, English garden rose perfume. Close-up, nose to the ground, STGT wine when you drink this. It shows a wonderful combination of the butterfly of flowers floating above the ground, and the latent plume of fissures in the rock of the planet emitting their mysterious message. This gives a large mineral-cordite signal with tight tannins, lots of smoke. Classic, intellectual, profound Côte-Rôtie. There is real good nerve in this. Fascinating wine, lucky Kermit and his customers. From 2016-17. 13°. 2038-40  Dec 2012
