(1-year 228-litre cask, 75% Chavaroche, 25% Lancement) big, very dark robe. The nose gives an image of piled high berries, a rich mound of them; it is a sun-filled bouquet. The palate is rich immediately, holds very ample gras, is a wine of plenty, with tannins that coast into it like a luxury wave on the wine, not apart, not separate, not just at the end. And this is made from whole bunches – what quality of tannins and ripeness this year! From 2020 or so. 2043-45 July 2016

bottled two weeks ago: dark red robe. Mulberry, prominent air of red berries, raspberry with sweet perfume; it lingers well, has musky notes, is abundant. The palate is also amply scented; it is toasted wine with coated content, a gourmandise style of Côte-Rôtie. The coating factor is a diversion for me. From 2020 to allow more snap. It ends on a little rocky tannin, crunch, powder. 12.5°. 2032-34  July 2016

(casks) full, dark red. Has a fat, comfortably installed red berry, soaked fruit aroma with oak traces across it, and extra depth from a beef stock note. The palate style is full, fat; there is an orb-like shape to this, and it wanders towards fruit bomb country through its gummy texture and dense content. The tannins are ripe and round. You either like this cellar-led style or you don’t. It ends on a note of graphite, rosemary, a southern tint, along with char-oak from its raising. It will overwhelm fine flavoured foods – needs game, big stews. I find it ponderous. From mid-2015. 2028-30  Nov 2012

2010 ()

(casks) dark, filled robe, black tints. Oily, smoky, oaked air, a real ripe n`rich bouquet, varnish and pine in the aroma. The palate offers ample juice and fleshy flavour, a mobile blackberry with smoked oak outliers. It moves along well – there is a core and glow to its black fruit Syrah. It has a smoked-oak intensity for now, is very modern. Pine notes come through in its flavour. It needs further raising and time. The finish dried a bit. Hence, from 2016. Cellar and policy over vineyard. 2028-31 Nov 2011

2004 ()

(casks) mild but promising bouquet, mixture of black fruit gums, a little chocolate and floral. Elegant fruit on palate, has a good, floating start before it tightens and darkens. Fruit is very typical, the wine is bouncy and nicely filled. Minted aftertaste, oaken support on finish that risks intrusion. A bit of a boudoir wine. Esp 2008 on. 2022-24 April 2006
