The Wines

80% 1950s Grenache, 20% 1970s Syrah, whole bunch, 12-18 day fermentation, aged 2-4 year oak casks 18 months, filtered, organic wine

2017 ()

full red colour; the nose has a roasted presence, with cooked plums, vegetal, hay notes, dusty trails included. It’s a mite strident. The palate bears spicy Grenache plum fruit with assertion, a note of dryness, in the tannins, which affect its flow. There is decent depth of content, but the tannin angle is a distraction. Maybe not so wise to include a lot of stems this year of drought. 14°. From mid-2020, not before. 2029-31 May 2019

2016

full red, good robe; the bouquet is sultry, brooding, on prune fruit with some smoke and a vegetal freshness. The palate holds rather rich, pushy red-fruited content, gains some spark of life, a minted aspect, before the close. It has a slightly chalky fibre running through it, and isn’t yet properly fused. The finish has juice in it, so it can get going further. For now, it’s a bit uneven. From 2021. 2032-34 May 2019

2001

smoky, compact fruit nose with some bacon within. Berried fruit is open and quite deep. Grows OK through the palate, has a sprinkle of end tannin. Aftertaste is a jam flavour, raspberry. Still vigorous, to 2008.  Feb 2004
