95% 1970s, 1988 Syrah, 5% Viognier, from Les Rochains, Bourrier, pre fermentation crop cooling, 90% destemmed, 3 week steel vat vinification, pumping overs, cap punchings, aged 25-30% new, 70-75% 1-5 year 228 & 400-litre oak casks 14-18 months, unfined, filtered, 2 bottlings, 4,700 b, rising in 2012 to 7,500 b
(the assembled wine, 2 year 228-litre cask) sound red. Aromatic first nose that is inviting, open, has graceful ease. The palate holds very good cool and clear fruit, light dance touches here. It ends on raspberry, violets – appealing. It lengthens well with consistent flow. Charm and finesse combine here. Good, promising. 2020-21 May 2013
pretty dark red. The bouquet shows southern zone florality, along with a ripe air of black olives, a bonny mixed aroma – this is immediately striking, and open. The palate offers an aromatic, Viognier floral infusion, is indeed a violets fest, is elegant wine. The tannins are well infused. Has great style, is broad and well-sustained, pliant and drinkable wine. Doesn’t have great structure, but does have lots of charm and appeal. Beautiful example of 2011 and its ease. 12.5°. 2020-21 May 2013 Previously Nov 2012 **** (casks) quite a dark red. Blackberry and raspberry fruit aroma here – the nose has good, crisp features, is clear shows and low-key oaking – a promising start. The palate is nicely alert, holds rocking, scented red berry fruit. This appeals through its fresh, free style, is w.o.w. wine as it stands, has a passé par tout, go anywhere, uplifted style – raspberry fruit on wheels. It ends on a smoky and floral, terroir note, with oak, hence some tar. Polished wine with good running fruit in it. From spring 2014. 12.5°. 2022-23 Nov 2012
even red robe. Floral, blackberry air, a light sense of leather in it, some tea and oak which could be less strong. The palate runs with steady purpose; it has helpful acidity to move the fruit along. It is clear and breezy, still young, not completely knit. A touch local, rustic in style. It has more evident tannin than the 2011. The fruit resembles raspberry heightened on its oaking, with oak apparent on the finish. Johan recognizes that there is too much oak. 12.5°. From spring 2014. 2019-20 May 2013
open, fragrant strawberry nose; nicely natural, gentle red fruit flavours. Pretty wine. 2007/08
floral, red fruits/tar, charming nose; fair weight of red fruit, outbreak of tar at end. Straightforward local wine. From 2005. 2007/08
stewed red fruit aromas; savoury, black fruits and tar. Showing fine now.
