The Wines

Viognier (2008) from full South facing sanded granite soils on Le Piaton at St Michel-sur-Rhône, vineyard overlooks the Rhône, whole bunch pressing, vat fermented at 15°-16°C, then at specific gravity 1030 into 80-90% new, 10-20% 1-year 228-litre oak cask, raised 11 months, malo completed, 1,500 b

2019 ()

1) (new 228-litre cask, sugars completed, malo not) ***(*) fine yellow. There’s an elegant thread to the nose, live pear fruit. There is style in the gras richness on the palate, the length good and steady, keeps control well. It’s nicely together. 2) (2-year 228-litre cask) ***(*) the nose is refined, shows oak toasting, dried fruits. The palate comes with gentle, wavy white fruit, is floral, has a little grip. Promising. I am, surprised this is 15.2° - you don’t feel that. 6 years, so 2024-25 Dec 2019

2018 ()

yellow robe; peach-apricot airs feature in a ripe, curvy bouquet, notes of wax. This is an honest glass of Condrieu, has a supple richness, which continues soundly, a note of tang-tannin-grip at the end. It’s genuine, could be more refined, but is nice and natural, with plentiful juice at the end. 13°. 1,500 b. 2022-23 Dec 2019

2017 ()

yellow robe; has a nicely open, on the go bouquet, airs of crushed pear in syrup, apricot, vanilla from the oak. The palate has a fat, fleshy debut, a genuine feel; it’s not New Wave or overdone, continues with its soft gras into a good, steady finale, grip and a little tang there. This is authentic Condrieu. 13°. Bottled 5 Sept 2018. To 2022 Dec 2018
