2016 ()

(casks/barrel) thorough, dark robe. The nose bears a full aroma of black berry fruit, soaked fruits, with some grape skins and black olives present. It leans towards the south more than the north. The palate holds a good depth of black fruits and gras richness, holds up well in the mid-palate, and lengthens on its early abundance. There is an attractive inkiness in its fruit and flavour, and it’s broad before the surging, sustained, really juicy finish that dashes over the brow of the hill and out of sight. 13°. 5,000 b. 2014 ()

(casks) dark robe, shiny. Black olives and a sense of compressed black fruit appear on the nose, a chink of light suggesting it will open pretty freely. The palate holds stylish black fruit with a swish of dark tannin that asserts on the finale. This is overtly tarry for now, and needs parking up for two winters. (casks) full, dark robe. Good, dark fruited intensity on the nose, presents a full debut for the wine, has a sleek abundance. The palate is full of fruit, which comes with a fleshy, carefree style. Travels well along the palate. Upper echelons  of 2013 Crozes here, a rocking wine. I like its free nature. Very drinkable – w.o.w. Ripe tannins render the finish nice and round. From mid 2016. (casks) healthy dark red; forward line of scented berry fruit on the nose, an appealing juice present – this is a fun bouquet. This is attractive wine, bears suave black fruit, its gras richness appeals, has a smoky, measured finale, good graphite cut there. Juicy, colourful, w.o.w. wine, with oak notes on the end. (casks) dark robe. Broad, pretty well-filled bouquet – there is a soft floral scent in the prune, soaked berries aroma that comes with oaking. The palate picks up the theme of scented black fruit, moves into a squeezy, supple late stage. Decent length – shows some boudoir perfume on the aftertaste. It hits a sound standard for Crozes, without having great charisma. Oak is apparent on the finish. Ready from 2014. To 2019  Nov 2012


(casks) dark robe; grainy, smoky nose whose black stone fruit is subdued; there is a coffee intensity (oak effect) in it, a lot of unfinished business. The palate bears bright, typical 2010 fruit that moves along, delivers a zappy, just slightly edgy intro, before quietening down: this shows its need for further raising (bottling due spring 2012). There are mineral enclaves on the finish, and this will always be good and clear-cut. A gradual developer that is not at all obvious. From late 2013. 2020-22 Nov 2011

2009 ()

full red. Reserved red fruit aroma with obvious potential. Nice line of expressive fruit on the palate, which picks up shapely tannins – this suggests future fun drinking. Has very solid length. From late 2012. 2020-22 March 2011


very dark robe that I find disconcerting – implies big cellar work (tasted blind). Baked black fruit, warm stones bouquet that has a civilised air; there is a tendency for it to be showy or “impressive”. Smoothly-textured black fruits lead the palate; from half way, it becomes more pebbly and nutty as its oak surrounds it and controls its sides. It ends on the dry texture of the oak, so can't be pleasurably drunk until late 2009 or 2010. Another production line Crozes that is fenced in by its oak and misses the point of a Crozes-Hermitage. 2006 ()

full, purple robe; big, in your face bouquet – soaked, a touch sweaty black fruits, with hung game present from this very ripe crop policy. The palate is similar – a wine of later cropping, and made to impress on the scale and the glitz (this is tasted blind). It starts with New World sweetness in its black fruit. It ends short of fruit, as if a spent force after the early effort. Food is a must. Has a sensual nature – “be my friend, please”. Good for novice drinkers. Drink to 2011. Dec 2007


full robe; soft, plump jam fruit aroma with a smoky top, and a few leather and fungal airs. The palate black fruit has an earthy, fundamental side with the crop deliberately picked late. A pretty fat wine with oak imposed on it. At this young stage, shows mineral and oak on the finish. A wine of cellar construction more than the vineyard and one that offers easy pleasure. black berry, warm and ripe bouquet, a little smoke, also succulent. Round shape on palate, black fruits with mint and a lightly sweet touch. Savoury jam effect. Bit of oak on finish. Workmanlike but sound wine. 2010-11 April 2006

2003 ()

dark colour. Some prune, southern herbs on nose. Agreeable fruit, just a little sweet. Runs on freshly, holds good richness. Length good. 2010 March 2005 Previously (cask) *** ripe, aromatic jam aroma, charm, style. Fruit has vigour, interest - shows red, raspberry fruits, plus some end tannin. Can broaden, blossom. Oak tightens the finish. 2007 on. 2014-15

2001 ()

fresh, black fruit bouquet, oak evident. Quite dense, juicy black fruit, clear cut and likeable. Lively wine. 2009-11

2000 ()

tar, red stewed fruit nose; tasty stewed start, oak tightens the finish, dries it. Some core here. 2005-06
