75-80% Grenache, 20-25% Syrah (av age 15 years) from south facing red clay, alluvial limestone & marl soils, destemmed, 3-5 week vinification, pumping overs, part vat emptying/refilling, concrete vat raised 7-12 months, “drink with game, red meat, cheese”, filtered, 80-100,000 b


dark red, attractive robe. The nose has southern weight, mass, shows a husky side, baking, with date fruit, roasting. The palate bears butty black-fruited content with tannins that could be more fleshy, are rather dry. There’s a note of menthol on the close, minting there. This has to get together and fuse, show more flesh late on, and given the vintage conditions, that is not certain. From 2020. 2029-30 Oct 2018

2016 ()

(concrete vat) dark red colour. The bouquet is a touch muddled, shows some black raisin, but not bright fruit, perhaps a prune element. This is middle of the road Gigondas, with black fruits, some spicing, but lacking the upbeat features of the best 2016s. The finish is very tarry, a bit tough. Leave until late 2018. 14°. 100,000 b. 80% Gren, 20% Syr. €18. 2026-27 Oct 2017

2015 ()

medium red robe. Has a smoky, smouldering nose with acute red berry fruit channelled directly, so it’s a little sharp. The palate gives brisk red fruits with wiry tannins and a cutting edge on the finish. This lacks textured richness, and is on the edge, rather a difficult ride. There is a brief moment of juiciness in the mid-palate, the aftertaste being spare. 14°. 80,000 b. 75% Gren, 25% Syr. Bottled July 2016. €18. From 2019. 2026-27 March 2017
