98% Grenache, 2% Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, vat raised


full red; the bouquet has an oily air with black cherry, soaked cherry airs, but also a fresh, salty clarity and aniseed lift. There are prune airs here as well, supplemented by brioche bread and cinnamon. A good start. The palate has a bonny debut – there is immediate roundness in the fruit, with fine acidity working to keep it going and allowing an ordered finish. This is all very well wrapped together, the balance is good, as is the length. I suspect old Grenache fruit lies at its heart (tasted blind), while the acidity is stimulating. Will drink well now to 2015, but can live and vary until 2018-19. 15°. April 2012
