2018

(the final blend, cask/vat, bottling Apr 2020) dark, shiny red, a jolie robe. The nose is swish, streamlined, on black berry, cherry fruit, the non Grenache varieties take a leading role. There is just a note of red berry sweetness from the Grenache. It’s rather Nordic, very elegant. The palate swings along freely, oak toasting on board, holds good, live fruit content, its tannins well ripe and within, the length good. This is up-tempo, modern pzazz Châteauneuf, pristine, polished, has measured gras, moves with freedom, can gain a bit of body over time, is uncomplicated, frank. 58% Gren, 23% Syr, 19% Mourv. 2017

shiny dark red; grilling, red meat notes, black olives, varied airs. There’s a solid heart to the bouquet, gleaming raspberry fruit. The palate has a good channel of stylish black fruit content, is absorbing oak and tannins, is more butty than the 2018, some local prompts in its polished make-up. The tannins need time, are a touch on the demanding side. Its black fruits are restrained by the tannins late on – the finish needs to fuse, and assemble, and most of all, soften. 47% Gren, 32% Syr, 19% Mourv, 2% Cins, Vaccarèse. 2016

(cask/vat) shiny, bold dark robe. Black olives and black berry fruits line the bouquet well, the fruit delivered with a pure hand. The palate is tasty and open, leads om mulberry fruits with raspberry as a sidekick. This has a gourmand appeal, is soft and polished. It picks up some inner strength and implicit power as it ends, showing its southern roots there, the aftertaste glowing. All the parts fit in well, with the degree under control for the most part. 2015 ()

(large barrel/cask/vat) dark red colour. The nose gives a funnel of black berry fruit, without immediate definition; it has an inner sweetness and ripeness, is pretty copious potentially, hints at headiness. The palate holds fluid content, with wavy lines of red fruit, red berries. The tannins curve into the wine, so it’s in shape to be a pretty big glass of Châteauneuf, without hidden corners, around 2019 onwards. 14.5°. 2028-29 Sept 2016

2014

(cask/vat) steady red robe. Mulled fruits such as raspberry show on the nose, which is open, a little sweet, and easy to appreciate. The palate holds slightly baked red berry fruits, but is running well, with added intensity, as it finishes. Not especially deep, and will drink well from mid-2017, for instance. 14.5°. 52% Gren, 28% Syr, 20% Mourv. 2022-23  Oct 2015 

2013

(cask/vat) medium+ depth of red in the colour, but it is light at the rim. Creamy, caramel, red fruited nose, where the fruit is ripe to overripe, with confit jam notes. The palate has pure, supple fruit on the attack. The tannins are light but fine. There is a touch of warmth on the finish. 2012 ()

(cask/vat, release Sept 2014) shiny, dark red; Nicely lingering air of black berry, a little mulberry red fruit – the nose is pure, has prune fruit and a tiny succulence on display. The fruit is good here. It is clear and pure, bears black berries and a light tannic coating, a salty note aiding its purpose. Its smooth, clear run is impressive -  this is a wine that will sing and charm, is balanced, and qualifies as a w.o.w. drink, testament to its pleasure and drinkability. It stands out on its purity, fruit quality and balance, and has no obvious oak. 62% Gren, 20% Syr, 18% Mourv, raised 55% large barrel, 30% casks, 15% concrete vat this year. 2011

(cask/vat) dark red, deep robe. Sweet-aired, inviting air that features iris, a fine note of licorice, blackberry jelly – the nose has lift. The palate combines a salted tang, violet and black berry in its flavour. It shows sweet charm towards the finish, a floral persistence. There are light grain tannin and nobbly moments after the smooth ride before, minor bumps in the road. Holds very pretty aromatic fruit with rose and iris nudges in it. Supple and inviting, a touch of power implicit at the end. Bonny wine. 14.5°. From mid-2014. 2025-27  Dec 2012

2010 ()

(bottling in May 2012) dark robe; bouncy, live black fruit in a modern, forward nose that rolls out its sunny appeal, gives hints of spice, warmth, licorice. The palate connects closely to the nose; its black berry juice and jelly taste is prominent, then picks up crunchy, clear tannins. It is a complete wine in its own rather pristine sphere. Very good length, and very persistent fruit here. From 2014. It has started to tighten and show more obvious intricacy since before the cold spell of February 2012. 2024-26. 56% Gren, 22% Syr, 20% M, 2% Cins this year. tasted end Feb 2012 Previously Dec 2011 **** (casks) rather full robe; nice, smoky, inky nose of sweet black fruit, mulberry. The nose is promising, rolls out a comfortable carpet of aroma, is nice and curvy. The palate shows immediate sweet appeal, has a gourmand, squeezy fat mid-palate, with droplets of juice even late on. The depth is good, and involves a little meatiness and darkness. Has very ripe, good quality tannins that are well integrated. Harmony will arrive in time. An immediately likeable, easy singing wine of good balance. From mid 2013. 2024-26 Dec 2011

2009 ()

(casks) dark robe; smoky, notably grilled airs travel across the nose, black cherry liqueur. Oak shows both on bouquet and palate. The early palate is tight, but liberates ripe, black fruit that flows as it goes. It ends on shiny, ripe tannins, and has a licorice, rather rich aftertaste which shows Christmas flavours such as dates. A polished style of wine, a good drop. From late 2012. It will be more local and will project less oak from 2015. 2023-25 Oct 2010

2008 ()

fair red robe. Creamy red fruit, red jam aroma, is slightly fat, but there are dusty, yeasty, even Brett angles to this as well. Has a simple Grenache red fruit debut to the palate, then gains some width and depth. Ends on liqueur red fruit and a mild soaked black cherries sensation, with cocoa in the aftertaste. 2007

this won a Gold Medat at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2010: full red, plum colour. Red jelly, mulled fruits that are perfumato, baled stones and oak traces – this all suggests a plush wine. This is a potent style Châteauneuf, is a shade international. The fruit is firm at the end, with heat simmering inside it. Has some herbal instincts. Is starting to integrate, but remains quite a potent affair. From 2012. 2022-24 April 2010 Previously Nov 2009 **(*) dark, brooding robe. The nose is also rather underground, has a chunky nature, with insistent black fruit within, earth, dark soil as well. Bold blackberry debut to the palate, with an “inky” infill, moments of eau de vie towards the finish, indicating its borderline excess power. It obviously needs food to camouflage that finish. It is a bit stretched out, makes it challenging for drinkers, places demands. There is a risk its alcohol will unmask as it ages and the content weakens. From spring 201. 2017-18 Nov 2009

2006 ()

quite a bright dark plum robe; the raspberry-blackcurrant nose is elegant, has a pretty, ripe, sweet and rounded nature, quiet persistence. The palate starts on a creamy blackberry fruit note – flows well. Its tannins are integrated, and it all works smoothly. Its fruit is easy, clear and round, the quality very safe here. Good balance, juicy, sure-fire appeal. From 2010. 2018-21. Just bottled. Jan 2008 Previously Nov 2007 ***(*) (the assemblage, from vat) full, bright dark red robe; has an intense black berry jam aroma – it is very primary now, comes with a ripe nature, and is pepped up by licorice and tar, quite powerful airs. Supple and gulpable, the palate is full of gras, richness, is very wide, and has an easy, savoury quality. It holds overt, rounded fruit that is very clean, and the ength is aided by some ripe tannin. A ticking over of alcohol drives it, too, but is within, not on the outside. Promising. 2022-24. 2005

red with traces of black in the robe; has a wide, raspberry jam aroma – it comes with good, elegant packing, and is a little biscuity and spicy also. There is a really good burst of clear fruit – a delightful raspberry liqueur flavour – this tastes good. It extends well, via some late licorice and tannic lining, and everything works well. It is elegant, but also precise and well-defined – not over gourmand in nature. Delightful, has a lot of classy fruit. Being rounded, but also purposeful, means it is very good. There is good life in the palate. 2024-26. Nov 2007 Previously March 2007 *** smoky, full bouquet with clean lines, some dark fruits, is nice and broad. Supple start to palate, has an easy texture with late, ripe tannins. Continues well – safe wine with good flow. Holds the red fruits typical of ripe Grenache, plus its spice: will evolve well. Good length. Expect more typicité to come through with time. From 2009 2018-21 March 2007, just bottled Previously Nov 2006 **** (pre-bottle) reticent bouquet with promise – shows compact black fruits, some oak toasting. Ripe, soaked black fruit with an underwoods (sous-bois) drift, mineral touch towards finish, the fruit persists well. Pretty true to its place. Oak more evident on nose than palate. 2004

mottling red robe; the bouquet comes with a fungal, gamey note, Pinot and also floral-rose influences, pine woods. It is a genuine mixed bundle. The palate is darkly fruited, has the cut of the vintage, and keeps moving. It attacks on mocha, dark riaisn, date. The finale is fresh and aromatic. It is OK, but lacks real depth of gras. Drinking well now: good with beef, sauced dishes. 14.5°. 2019-20  Oct 2013 Previously Nov 2006 *(*) reticent, wild red fruits nose with streaks of acidity and high tone. Brewed, chocolate style wine of grass roots making, as if from the northern zone. Lacks generosity now. The tannins are rather firm, but may be better integrated by around 2009. Uneven wine, keep fingers crossed that it can come together. 2014-15. 2003

prominent, red jam aroma that is deep and also fine in style; the palate comes forward with tasty, easy fruit, a squeeze of red berries, then some gummy tannin. The “elegant” sort of Châteauneuf here: a perfectly nice wine that has no great local imprint. It will be best to drink this in the second stage of its life – otherwise it is a bit facile. 2001

mainly red robe, with a bit of top ruby. Has a tar, road smell on the nose with some animal evolution, and a peppery undertone, cinnamon, too. The palate is at a late primary-early secondary stage: primary from red fruits in the early aroma, secondary from the late trail of mocha in the air. It runs along well, with some freedom, thanks to its acidity. A good example of the vintage. Good with lamb now, for instance. The length is good, the fruit sustained. “It was quite an extreme year – a lot of wind, sun and not much rain in August and September. The skins were thick and the grapes concentrated, so there was more depth of tannin than usual,” Bernard Travelecoste. 2018-20 Nov 2007

1995

fair red colour; the nose is a bit dumb, shows some sap, and small, mature fruit berries. The palate is quite deep, led by prune flavours, has a little tannic bone as well. The tannins come forward near the finish, are sound, not abrasive. A bit press button, but agreeable enough. From 2000. 2009-10 Oct 1996

1994

fair red, legs down glass. Rather warm, straightforward nose based around plum jam, damson, some sweetness. The palate is warm at the outset, is a southern and rounded wine, rather obviously so. The matter is comfortable, has a certain ripeness of texture, is led by its Grenache. Fair length. From 1999. 13.5°. 2005-08 Oct 1996
