2012 ()

(barrel/casks) comfortably dense red robe. The top note in the bouquet is one of grilling, is nicely profound below, an air of mulled red fruits, touches of thyme and tarragon; there is an agreeable jelly quality in the fruit, and a cover of pebble dust. The palate holds dark fruit, the shape compact and upright, with enough gras to fill that frame of tight tannin. Good Laudun, true to the area’s rather fresh style. The Syrah does well to give it extra drive. It ends with a mulled black fruits, slightly salty spot. More Bordeaux than Burgundy in shape as it were. From mid-2014 to allow a shade easier finale. A good 2012. 13.5°. 2018-19  Oct 2013

2007 ()

(casks) full, attractive dark red; liqueur berry aroma with oak snap on top, black fruits, black olives here, too. The palate has the supple, rich nature of 2007, and a bonny thread of tannin, a good spine. Good, fleshy fruit with a generous heart. Solid quality here. To 2014. Nov 2008

2006 ()

dark red, black top traces. Red jam, raspberry aroma that is giving, but bridled for now by a little oak, adds a roasted nuts dimension. The palate has mid-depth richness, is permeated by oak, with a snappy spine, and the oak drying it on the end. Not yet ensemble. The fruit is black cherry, blackberry. Limited on the finish, mainly due to its oak raising clamping it there. From late 2009. Bottled only 1 month ago, also. 14.5°. 2012-13 Nov 2008

2005

steady red; toffee, raisin outer nose with prune, ripe plum within, and a smoky barbecue air – it suggests a solid wine is to come. The palate has a richly textured, fleshy start, but there is the swift arrival of tannins and oak to grip and pack it in some drier textures. The palate is closely packed, that tight 2005 imprint. For those who like a little challenge in their wine, nothing very evident. Decant. From mid-2009. 14.5°. 2013-14 Nov 2008
