2012 ()

(casks) medium+ red robe, legs. Upbeat, sweet strawberry appeal on the nose, a trace of violet, is very inviting thanks to its deep jam aroma – it makes you want to eat it with a spoon. It will take on some herbs, extra nuances. The palate repeats the nose – it is full of sweet, gourmand appeal, a fleshy red fruit with just a flash of spirit towards the finish, where thyme and licorice feature with a note of liqueur fruits. A spherical, fat Châteauneuf-du-Pape, but not overweighty. A Full Sun, no shade, wine in the glass. 15.5°. 2023-25  Oct 2013

dark red robe, the top rim more pale. Careful, reserved nose with the depth to go forward and be expressive, holds sustained red simmered fruits, liqueur in style; there is a reflection of baked plains. The palate is an interesting mix of mineral and cool red fruit, the shape upright – a Grenache of holding back. Traditional, well done, its tannins needing two years; the fruit becomes compressed by them late on. Has character. A bonny spot of red fruit lies at its centre and late palate. 15.5°. 2026-28  Oct 2013
