2018 ()

(600-litre casks, bottling Sept 2020) regular red robe; the nose is brewed, spiced, has a raw, youthful approach, carries darkness, as if it has been slightly exerted. The palate stands around a solid Grenache core, with further spicing and a dense strawberry jam flavour. There are light pockets of mineral, near pumice stone, on the second half, while the finish, for now, is a little gnarled. It will move together correctly, its strength limiting it to a glass or two, not more. 14.5°. 3,200 b. €75: expensive! From 2023. 2040-42 Oct 2019

(casks, bottling Sept 2019) dark red colour; the nose, has an aroma of stewed red berries, strawberry jam, with herbes de Provence, smoky airs. The palate attacks on a rush of gourmand, flowing dark red fruits, mulberry with a note of cool blueberry. It builds into an area of dark tannins and prune fruit, black olives on the extended finish, the texture smooth there. Has ripe, gummy tannins. 15°. 3,200 b. 100% Grenache. €75. From 2022. 2040-42 Oct 2018

2016 ()

(cask, bottling Sept 2018) red robe, quite full. The nose is very curvy, gives a well-lifted aroma of red berries with notes of pine, a strawberry fruits sweetness. It’s as if it has been lifted straight from its tree-lined vineyard. The palate has an effortless feel to it, parades cosy, perfumed red berry Grenache fruit, with a sprinkle of dusty tannins towards the finish. It brings in some mineral, a lead pencil notion from the mid-point. It is quietly complex, and is currently in a naked state. 14.5°. 3,200 b. €72. From 2021. 2035-38 Oct 2017

(cask) bright, clear red, very Grenache. This has an über perfumed, Pinot-esque aroma – it has a real child of the sands purity, is arresting. There is great definition in its red fruit, raspberry. This is exciting: it’s a complete symphony on its own. The palate bears stylish red fruits with a silken bearing. This is ACE. It has a most beguiling nature – back I go to the 1960s Châteauneufs of my youth. It has a most belle spherical harmony, beautiful detail, and wholesome, fine juice – way to go wine, where Châteauneuf should be once more after the lost years. Pinot meets Grenache here; it is exceptional, has a total harmony. 15°. From mid-2019-20. 2034-37 Oct 2016

very clear red. There is a floral-spiced air over raspberry on the nose, the red fruits soaked in style. It’s a benign and lucid start. The palate comes along roundly, all together, is soft all through, including the tannins. Red berry fruit, strawberry, lies at its heart. This is an enveloping Châteauneuf, with a texture card, aromatic, wispy fruit, Burgundian connotations. It is very attractive, shapely. Some of Grand Pin went into Les Sablons this year. From mid-2017. 14°. 2026-27 Oct 2016
