The Wines

100% Grenache (1930s-1940s) from yellow sand with a little clay on 1.7 hectare on Guigasse (N-E), whole bunch 3 week concrete vat vinification, natural yeasts only, small pumping overs, aged 4-10 year 600-litre oak casks 24 months, unfined, unfiltered, made in 2009, 2010 (both years a blend of Pignan & Guigasse), 2014 (replaced Guigasse), 2016, organic wine, 4,000-5,600 b

(casks, bottling Sept 2018) full, deep red, black tints. Blackberry and loganberry coulis and lozenges give a rich bouquet, comes with several layers of filling, and just a hint – welcome, given the sweetness – of violet flowers. The palate links well to the nose, also runs with a theme of juicy abundance. The ripeness and its surge lines the gums, and the tannins add another outer layer to the content. The density dictates that this is close to being a sipping wine. It’s certainly long. Decanting advised. 14.5°. 5,600 b. From 2021. 2036-39 Oct 2017

sound red robe. The nose has inner intensity based on raspberry notably, cooked plum; it drills in deeply, has a tangy-tar note. The palate gives a lissom textured roll of gras, carries spice and spice box mysteries. The raspberry fruit has a sure presence, wells up from within. This is interesting, with dibs and dabs of low-key contributors. It keeps going well, gives a quiet late surge of its red berry, perfumed fruit. Decant this. 14°. From spring 2018. 2029-31 Oct 2016
