(new/used casks, bottling June 2019) the robe is dark, while the bouquet is a bit of a blockbuster: it’s broad, fuelled with a strong charge of black fruit, soaked black cherries, a note of eau de vie strength. It’s certainly “impressive”, but not that welcoming. The palate is sturdy, obvious, lined with vigorous dollops of prune, date flavour, straight from the Hot South. This used to be a Made in North Africa style of wine in my youth, before heating up. It’s assertive, very full, and you have to like this gloopy, rich and obvious style, have a sweet tooth for it. Decanting a must. 15.5°. 1,000 b. 100% Syr. From 2023. 2040-43 Oct 2018
