2016 ()

(casks) intense, dark robe. The bouquet has good life and spring in its step, even with a deep infill of black fruits, a massed pile of blueberries and some prune, with a note of oak bringing low-key sweetness. The palate is immediately wholesome, comes with tight but elegant packing of black fruits with some charcoal from the oak. There is abundant juice here. The aftertaste is fresh, with licorice and a note of chocolate, mocha. It’s not a typical Châteauneuf, is close to Bandol in effect, but will take on more local signatures over the years. 15.5°. 1,500 b. €26. From 2023. 2039-42 Oct 2017

2015 ()

(casks) dark colour, sustained dark red. The nose is a brooding affair, with oxtail, earthiness, near sultry fruits such as prune, mulled berries: it suggests long hang time of grapes on the vines. The palate is ample, has charge within: this is scaled Châteauneuf for sipping rather than free drinking. Its black stone fruits pick up firmly inset tannins, and the finish is dense. Because of the inherent power, it’s not completely balanced. Take your time here: from 2020. Winter-autumn drinking, game and red meats required. 15.5°. 2029-31 Sept 2016
