dark red. The nose is reserved, has scale, shows for now a bolstered black stone fruiting, a sturdy ripeness in it; there’s an underlay of grilling. Its heart is on ripe, old vine Grenache. The palate is compact and rich, a real thick centre to it, has a touch of late, cool openness. The tannins are pretty dense. This is sturdy, traditional, honest Châteauneuf – reach for the knife and fork, track down the game to accompany it. It has good heart, and is full of local colour, garrigue influences, menthol, herbs. 14.7°. From mid-2020. 2033-35 Mar 2018
