dark red. Resinous first air that wipes out the fruit’s purity and elegance, has a note of red meat also. The palate is oily, pine-resin flavoured. It can only handle hearty foods. It is very hard to drink much, such is its power and texture – it is meant to be a humble Côtes du Rhône. Too full-on to be enjoyable. Decant this. 14.5°. €8. To 2017. Dec 2012


(vat) sample bottle 1: Bretty, oxidative fruit. Sample bottle 2: yeasty, Bovril beef stock, black fruit, high tone aroma. More supple black fruit on this, a medium weight affair, but generally unconvincing. Length is OK. Decant this. Not yet spruced up for bottling, so can be sorted. To 2014. Nov 2009


(vat) bright, pretty black-tinted robe; the nose is tightly wrapped, with oak present – there is liqueur and raisin in it. The palate has a creamy style of fruit, with blackberry flavouring – it proceeds steadily. The finale shows grip and oak. This is travelling in a decent direction. The tannins demand it be left until early 2009. There is a risk that the fruit may be overtaken as it evolves the oak/tannins and the fruit in slippage. Retaste when bottled. Jan 2008
