The Wines

50-75% Grenache, 25-50% Syrah from galet stone covered clay-limestone soils on Crousroute (S-E), Les Serres (S-E), destemmed, 20-25 day steel vat vinification at 26°C, pumping overs, cap punchings, aged 50% new, 50% 1-year 228-litre oak casks 12 months, 6,000 b

2016

(casks, bottling March 2018) deep, dark red. The bouquet mixes simmered black berry fruits with oak, varnish, touches of diesel and licorice. The palate is peppery from its oak, holds sound enough content within the oak. For now, it lacks clear definition, and is still getting it together. The aftertaste is demanding, dry. 15.7°. 6,000 b. 50% Gren. 50% Syr. €45. From 2021. 2027-29 Oct 2017

2015 ()

(casks, bottling March 2017) full robe. The nose is broad and brewed, shows bright black fruit with oaking and its charcoal smokiness. The palate is robust but cool, travels strongly along a streamlined black fruits ride, blueberry. The finish is discreetly charged, with oak again. It lacks true southern gras and freedom, a result of the formula employed – 50% Syr, 50% new oak; that renders it a bit contrived. 50% Gren, 50% Syr. 50% new oak. 6,000 b. 14.9°. From 2019. 2030-32  Sept 2016

2012 ()

(casks, bottling May 2014) full robe. Dark, broad, determinedly full nose with an inlay of black cherry liqueur, a pool of that – the bouquet shows violet, sweet herbs. The palate has a kirsch, sweet n’savoury approach, much soaking of the fruits. It makes ponderous progress along the palate, and thickens via its tannins on the finish, where it becomes more nutty and dense. The second half is weighty. From 2016. 15.5°. 60% Gren, 40% Syr, 6,000 b. 2025-26 Nov 2013

2010 ()

dark robe, legs. Crunchy, dark raisin air, the nose has a chocolate depth. Its black berry fruit is sustained, but there is a sense of the cellar being imposed here. The palate is wide, muscled, assertive, with oak in its gummy late stages. Still raw goods, and a touch mainstream. There is the tautness of extraction present. From 2015 to allow less oak. This will be best around 2020. 2028-30 Dec 2011

2009 ()

dark robe; raisin, soaked black cherries and mulberry fruit airs – this is a sturdy, thorough bouquet that promises well. The attack is rich, endowed, the wine is fleshy and has a silken texture, is all smooth and ripe including its tannins. Close to ready. 15°. 2022-24. €31. Sept 2011
