2012 ()

(casks, bottling June 2014) rather full red; sizzled bacon air, one can smell the oiliness in the bouquet, gives a pine oak effect and a bounty of soaked plums. The nose panders to the sucrosity brigade. This has a tenacious nature, is based on tarry oak and obvious, rich matter – it isn’t fusing as yet. A full-bodied Châteauneuf-du-Pape that needs 3-4 years to allow more vineyard and less cellar influence. Its doesn’t drink very freely, is stoked-up, flashy, for after dinner, post-prandial moments. Vigorous wine that runs with punch, oak. From 2018. 15.5°. €45. 2025-26  Nov 2013

2011 ()

sober plum red. Plum-mulberry, leather-tinted aroma, has a liqueur, chicken stock aspect and a burnt, scorched angle. This has a rich, ripe debut, with a clear wave of oily plum fruit, sweetness apparent. This is a bit cumbersome, weighty – one cannot drink a lot of it. It is near a dessert wine.
