100% Grenache from sandy, galet stone covered soils on Chapouin (N-E) & Barratin (N-E), destemmed, 4 week vinification at 22°C (down from 28°C in early 2010s), part vat emptying/refillings, pumping overs, cap punchings, concrete vat raised 12 months, filtered, 13-15,000 b

2016 ()

(vat) dark red colour. Has a grilled, cigarette ash air that sets it apart, notes of violet and red berries bellow. The palate gives a flavour of cherry liqueur fruit, is smooth as a result, holds tannins that add some late crunch, finely powdered they are. It is slightly marked by its power of degree, with an eau de vie aspect from that. Leave until 2020, decanting advised. 15.5°. 2029-31 Oct 2017

2015 ()

(concrete vat, bottling Jan 2017) shiny, quite full red. Ash smoke, reduction pong, soaked red fruits – a certain disorder for now on the nose, which has some sunny depth. The palate gives a lactic note in its red fruits, is raw and unrefined. The tannins are prominent on their graininess. The aftertaste is peppery. Unconvincing as it stands. 14.5°. 15,000 b. From late 2018. 2026-27  Sept 2016

2014

(vat, bottling Apr 2016) the red robe is a little fragile. The bouquet has an air of soaked fruits, cassis, a honeyed sweetness. The palate bears mild red cherry and strawberry fruit with a glint and crunch of late tannin - added graininess from that. Quiet Châteauneuf. There is a free sweep in its texture. It lacks a little gras. 15°. 15,000 b. €16.50. From 2017. 2024-25  Oct 2015

2012 ()

full red robe. Liqueur black cherry aroma with a red meat notion of extra impact, wee note of licorice. There is a tickle of cherry fruit and acidity on the start of the palate; plenty of appeal here, its fruit easy to appreciate. It ends clearly, the fruit still present there. A sympa bottling in the making. Has a juicy centre. Unpretentious scale to it. From late 2015. 15°. €15.30. 13,000 b. 2023-24  Nov 2013

2011

(vat, bottling next month, Jan 2013) matt hued red robe. The nose is reserved, has an elegant style, shows light raspberry with a rose scented sweetness. The palate resembles a fruit pastille with extra buzz as it nears the finish. Raw, young wine, not together yet. The finish is upright, clear. Light-framed wine that can provide gracious drinking, carries fairly well along the palate. Aromatic style. From late 2014. 15°. 2023-24  Dec 2012
