The Wines

65-80% Grenache, 15-20% Syrah, 5-15% Mourvèdre, destemmed, 15-25 day concrete vat vinification at cool temperatures, pumping overs, concrete vat raised, filtered, was 120,000 b in mid-2000s, 10-12,000 b

2018

(concrete vat) full, deep red colour; the bouquet is broad, has good potential, isn’t very open, but has an aromatic couch of blackcurrant fruit at its centre. There’s plenty more to come. The palate holds black fruits with good detail, and a tasty run, the tannins also refined and neatly set into it. This is juicy, very drinkable, w.o.w. Châteauneuf that deserves fans for its openness and charm. It’s rather delicious now! 2039-41 Oct 2019

2017 ()

(concrete vat) dark red colour; the nose presents appealing red berry, raspberry fruits without the overhang of power that some 2017s show. There are rosemary-thyme, cigarette ash touches, and it floats nicely in the air. The palate gives a bundle of smoky red stone fruits, with life in the tannins some up and down movement from them. There is a dash of mint on the close. Unpretentious Châteauneuf here. 14°. 10,000 b. 65% Gren. 20% Syr, 15% Mourv. From 2021. 2040-42 Oct 2018

2016 ()

(vat, bottling Nov 2017) red robe with a sheen about it. There is a simple, rounded air of raspberry fruit on the nose, some barbecue smoke attached, a notion of black olives. The palate is easy, mild, bears gently rounded small berry fruits, blueberries and raspberries, until a little chalky tannin comes along. This is an open book Châteauneuf that will please, and can be drunk from mid-2018. 14°. 10,000 b. 65% Gren, 20% Syr, 15% Mourv. €25. 2030-31 Oct 2017

2005

the robe is quite a full red, with some indications of evolution from the pale red top rim; bouquet holds resinous, black fruits, pepper and tar – is approaching a gamey, more funky stage. Brewed fruits kick off the palate, with an upright texture from its tannin, also chocolate thanks to the oak. Modern style wine, with oak traces at the end that are largely absorbed. Balance is pretty good. 120,000 b. 2016-19 April 2007
