The Wines

75% Grenache (1946, 1973-74), 10% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah, 5% Cinsault from sandy, galet stone covered soils on Crousroute (S-E) at Sorgues, 80% destemmed, 3-4 week concrete vat vinification, part vat emptying/refilling, pumping overs, raised 50% concrete vat, 30% 6 year 600-litre oak casks, 20% 40-50 hl large barrel 12-14 months, unfined, filtered, first wine 2011, 7,500-8,000 b


(vat/casks/barrel) full, dark red. Sweet roast lamb, with basil, laurel, a liqueur of raspberry compose the bouquet at this early stage. It’s unusual, and deep. The palate is gourmand, amply fruited, with incense and spiced flashes as it goes. The flavour resembles a red berry coulis or liqueur, and the tannins meld into well, adding a layer of content. This has the 2016 generosity in pretty full measure. The aftertaste is varied, spiced. 15.5°. 7,500 b. 75% Gren, 10% Syr, 10% Mourv, 5% Cins. €36. From 2020. 2034-37 Oct 2017


Grenache red robe, some top ruby. Tobacco, cigar box airs front up the nose, with damson plum within, a sultry back drop. The palate is sweetly and charmingly flavoured, has spice and black pepper spots, gives a full glass, with sweet red berry fruits showing on the finish. It offers a textured, perfumed, pleasurable ride, all in rounded fashion. 14°. 2032-35 Oct 2017


bright red robe. Has a musky, forward red pastille air with good inner density, a little toffee: it’s a promising start. The palate collects well on the attack, with a stretch of still tight red fruits such as red cherry and strawberry. This has good, true length, is a notably harmonious wine with a spherical shape waiting to happen. It’s airborne, like a feather in the wind, and there are tiny red fruits with a crisp note on the finish. 14°. From mid-2018. 2029-30  Oct 2016


this is marginally ahead of the 2014: clear red robe. There is good strike, spring in the red fruit aroma that gives perfume, violets, strawberry. It isn’t out yet, is half way on that score. The palate has a suave debut, glides along, has a most even run of suave, textured gras richness, red fruits with a little bite, a spur of late freshness adding vigour. This keeps going well, kicks on, is bonny wine. 13.5°. From 2018. 2030-32 Oct 2016
