2018

dark red; the nose is weighty, on soaked cherries, ripeness, a neat sweetness, is all about fruit over other influences. The palate moves with some verve even in the midst of its copious content, pushes the button quite hard in the later stages. It centres on black fruits with some dust, kick in the tannins. It can fuse over time, the length sound. It has a plush style overall. 15°. 30,000 b. 70% Gren, 15% Syr, 10% Cins, 5% Mourvèdre. €28. From 2023. 2043-45 Oct 2019

2017 ()

(vat/barrel) regular red robe. Has a sweet and curvy red berry aroma that gives a neatly plump debut, the fruit glistening nicely. There is a very close link between nose and palate which holds trim red fruits, has a savoury and fat nature, skips a beat or two for now. It gathers a little intensity along the way. 2016

dark red robe. The bouquet gives a black olives, black fruit jam aroma with some earthy appeal. It’s of the ground more than the air. The palate comes with a prune, dried fruits flavour at first before the onset of demanding, dry tannins, perhaps from the large barrels. There is a cooked, even pure, fruit heart here, but I wish the second half was more refined and fresher. It could be edging forward in the right direction. The nose is a lively assembly of blackberry and raspberry fruits, delivered with appealing sweetness and freedom. There is a hint of dried trails, herbs behind. The palate wells up generously on fluid, nicely rich content, the neat fruit holding a jelly-like quality. It then takes on some muffled tannins that bring dryness to the table. It needs to be clearer. 15°. 55,000 b. From 2020-21. 2032-34 Oct 2017

2015

dark red robe. The nose has a sappy quality, an air of soaked, ripe red fruits, and smoked bacon. It’s broad and well set in that vein of ripeness. There is a lightly perfumed air above it. The palate picks up on the perfumed note and glides along on a suave texture, strawberry fruit coulis in style. The tannins wrap around well on the finale. This is full, broad but pretty harmonious, just a little on the edge regarding its degree, which comes via a note of kirsch on the close. 15°. 55,000 b. Bottled already - July 2016. steady red robe. Blackberry liqueur, rounded nose, has a jolly sweetness, some fat, to entertain. The palate is straightforward, offers easy berry fruit, with likewise largely supple tannins in the second stage: their little graininess will meld over a winter. A bit on the simple side, but drinks openly and OK. Ready soon. Drink with grilled meats. 14°. Bottled Aug 2015. 80,000 b. €19.50 at the cellars. 2013

medium red colour. Simple, red fruited nose, shows a touch of plum – it is slightly overripe in nuance. The palate stays on the fruit, gives a hint of spice on the finish. The tannins are clean and rounded. This is light and centred on fruit. A wine for early consumption, but one that is in harmony with the vintage. From 2016. 2012 ()

medium red; discreet, young nose, gives a light raspberry air, is appealing and offers interest, wee mystery, has a low-key floral touch. The palate is also discreet, the fruit lissom, clear; it picks up grainy, flint-smoke tannins. The finish is quietly rounded, with herbs present. 2011 ()

dark robe. Sweet-coated, blackberry, cherry aroma that is straightforward and open. It comes with licorice, meat stock, pebble stone airs. The palate starts on tasty blackberry fruit – you want to drink this, is very much a 2011 pleasure wine, with light salty late notes bringing cut. It has savoury late stages. A w.o.w. wine that works well as an early wine which, more than many already bottled, holds Châteauneuf-du-Pape features. A jolly drop. From mid-2013 to refine the finish’s dusty tannins. 14.5°. 2020-21  Dec 2012

2010

clear, full red robe. There is a note of reduction on the nose, shows chicken stock, cooked plum, treacle, with a mineral air also – a compact bouquet here. The palate leads off on an oily, suave texture, with broad and supple width. A wine of good concentration, not taken to excess – it is well installed around its ripe, spiced Grenache. Has a spicy aftertaste with grip and largely ripe tannins. Decant this. From mid-2014. 2028-30. 80% G, 10% Syr, 10% Cins this year, 100% concrete vat raising, 20,000 b this year. 2009

(casks) handsome dark red robe; prune-violet, sweet-aired nose, which is ripe, shows encouraging raspberry jam/liqueur. The palate holds a textured run of shapely fruit, and picks up pepper-spice as it goes, ending on licorice notes. Lip-smack tannins sign it off. It is rounded all through, and the finish is good and complete. An accessible early style wine, but a little late crispness offers potential. It has been built around probably old vine Grenache (tasted blind) that delivers oily, unctuous appeal. Good length. From 2012. 2020-22 Oct 2010

2007

modest, matt-hued red. Beef stock aroma that shows mature fruit, is oily rather than fresh. The palate is built around mature Grenache that has a sweet implant – tastes of old plum, mulled stone fruit that has been left to dry on the tree (ie 2007 – with the wind influence late on). Tawny, dessert style of wine leaning, or just needs monster dish of marcassin (young wild boar). Just a little floral note on the end to lighten matters. 14.5°. Complete contrast to the March 2009 tasting in Avignon. 2017-18 Nov 2009 Previously March 2009 *** fair depth of red colour; has a facile, smoky red cherry jam, Grenache fruit aroma. The palate is similar – easy red fruits, sweetness and herbs late on, with a tight grip building up after half way. There is tang of ripe fruit on the end. 2006 ()

(pre-bottle) quite a dark red; the aroma carries prickly red fruits with white pepper, has some game and earthiness in it, and is a bit hidden today. There is a sweet tone to the mid-plus weight fruit here, and fair length overall. It is still very young, but there is some nice muscle in its frame, and it continues well. One of those wines that can be underestimated. The tannins end with some pushy dryness. From mid-2010. 2019-21 Jan 2008

2 bottles tasted June 2008 , neither right – 1st is oxidative, flat, dry; 2nd is curly, dry finish, no vivacity at all, nose is like cough medicine. June 2008

2000

matt red turning to a nuggety ruby robe; Has a coffee, sweet spice aroma – baked raisin tart, with some milk chocolate. The palate has an elegantly sweet start, then becomes more punchy and less suave – kicks into some acidity and a rather pebbly texture, with tannins and some dryness. A wine of local feel, it is moving quietly along. Has plenty of tannin still, I note. 2017-19. 65% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 10% Cinsault this year, aged 50% new barrel, 50% vat for 15 months. Jan 2008
