dark, intense robe. The nose gives a very southern take – prune fruit with sweet spicing, airs of black raisin, a soft florality as well, a musky perfume. It is indeed weighty. The palate works on its smoothness of texture, is thoroughly filled with coated, ample content, the richness confirmed, perfumed gardens in the mix. This is sipping only wine, not one that you can drink freely, sadly. It’s all very redondo, but moves rather ponderously, despite the glossy exterior. From 2021: the longer the wait, the better. 2031-34 Oct 2017

2009

(cask) full robe. Sappy first air to the nose, with oak behind: it needs richness to handle the oak which leaves a smoky trail. The palate is firmly flavoured with a live oak presence running through it. The attack is based on tar, plum-prune flavours, has life. The length is sound, even if it is oak-aided, and the wine a shade narrow for its degree of oaking. It draws up towards the finish, and is under the hammer of the oak. From 2013. 2021-23 Oct 2010
