Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne, Jacquère (called La Cugnette locally) all interplanted on a 100-year old foot of the slope 0.2 hectare vineyard at Verlieu worked by two ladies, the Angeniol sisters, who were 94 and 92 years old in 2019, around the Second World War a Champagnisé Viognier was made from it, the vineyard is now to be built on with housing, 228-litre used oak cask fermented, raised 9 months, bottled in July, malo completed

shiny yellow; ripe fruit, calm generosity feature on the nose, giving peach, grapey airs, gunflint. The palate carries well founded depth with firm content, peach stone, white plum, notes of late tannin from the Jacquère. I like the second half. It’s wine for la table. “The Jacquère was always served locally in the bars with a bit of sugar,” André Perret. 14.5°. 2024-25 Dec 2019
