2017

(casks) dark red; the nose carries potential, has a rather deep inlay of black berry fruit, herbs also, notes of oak toffee. The palate attacks well on fleshy cherry fruited content, comes with momentum, drive to the line, with squeezy gras richness on the close. It has a sound heartbeat, a note of black olives and licorice on the finish. 13°. From mid-2020. 2033-35 GB £218 per 12 b i/bond H2Vin quintessentially@h2vin.co.uk +44(0)203 073 6655 Nov 2018

2013

shiny dark robe. This has a pretty naked aroma, one in a young state – there is crisp blackberry fruit a-plenty, licorice, and oak in behind. The palate is full of lively, cool black fruit, has energy, is shaping up as a w.o.w. wine, has gusto. The tannins have the slightly powdery profile of 2013, are clear, so the finish is tingling. Very good, has character in a racy way. 12.7°. €20.50 ex cellars. From mid-2015 for good action. 2026-28  Jan 2015  Previously Nov 2014 **** (casks) sound red robe. The nose gives reduction, but is potentially stylish, and has an elegant depth. There are airs of flowers and stone red fruits, peppered touches. There are juicy pockets within the palate’s fine tannin lining. This is a superior 2013 with sound content, and obviously the typical 2013 freshness. There is a nice gummy moment, which includes some gras richness, at the end. 13°. 2012 ()

(casks) VALUE wine. dark robe. Crushed, simmered berry aroma, a mulled raspberry note at its heart. Requires a waiting game to show its best, has been cropped very ripely. The palate departs on very crunchy black fruit with prominent oak thrusting around its sides. It ends crystalline clear, with menthol cut. In shape to do well from mid-2015. Poised, modern, zappo St Jo with good depth as well. This is really long. Wine for la table – lamb leg, gigot, great with magret of Barbary duck. 2027-29. £152 12 b in bond GB, H2Vin. Nov 2013

2011

(casks) full, dark robe. Tarry, ripe, almost evolved fruit air – a nose that shows prune, fig sweetness, spreads out widely. There are also light notes of meat gravy, also licorice. The palate also bears a ripe coating of fruit, as if a long maceration was performed to achieve a pre-determined style in the cellar. “Effective” wine, but it feels rather staged. The flavour combines raspberry and dark plum with a nutty, oaked final quarter. It is a bit distant from the vineyard for now. The fruit is clear. Better with time. From mid-2014. 2020-21  Nov 2012

2010

healthy dark red; elegant bouquet, promising: a beguiling berry fruit laced with mild oak, all in order. The palate connects well to the nose, offers stylish, scented black fruit with lucid flow and appeal. Oak shows up on the end, adding extra depth. Finesse in good evidence here, stylish Saint-Joseph, that conveys the finesse of the granite and a very likeable precision. The fruit comes with flair. Excellent balance, lovely fruit, long wine. From spring 2013.  13°. £22-£26.95 in GB. 2029-31  Nov 2012  Previously Nov 2011 **** (casks) shiny, dark. There is some animal in a mysterious style bouquet that proffers a little reserved, rather classy black fruit; it has a fine dark chocolate and black pepper sprinkle as well. The palate is serene, elegant, calmly rounded. The fruit is measured, sophisticated, nicely suave. Harmony is coming into view. The fruit drives along well, and it gradually draws in on polished tannins. A well restrained wine for food. From 2013. 2026-29 Nov 2011

2009

attractive bright red. Light spice, flinty airs accompanied by raspberry jam in a low register on the bouquet – a “tip-toe” nose, not really involving the drinker. Clean, sleek fruit on the palate. A bit short on soul. Has a red cherry finish. Modern, modern. Rather “starched”. To 2021. March 2011

2007

dark, black tints, matt robe; smoky, black fruits nose – tangly, brambly fruit here. There is forward, fresh black fruit with a smoky nature for most of the way. It ends on a sort of graphite tang, is clear and easy to drink, has a clear licorice aftertaste. Esp 2011 onwards. 2021-23 Nov 2009

2006

(casks) quite a thorough, dark robe; the bouquet is of some scale, lead by a yeasty, blackberry aroma with violets around it. There is quite decisive black fruit on the palate that has a pretty pure, clean-cut quality. The palate is trimmed with raisins, prunes, some tannins. Has a ripe finish, with a sweeter tone there. Still working out where it goes. From 2009. 2020-22 Dec 2007

2005 ()

dark robe; ripe fruit aroma in a round bouquet – has a little sweetness in its minted black jam. Softly textured palate with some black fruit mixed with tannin late on, and a mineral flecked finish. Stylish wine in the making, the length is good and fresh. 2021-23 Nov 2006
