2017 ()

fine yellow; the nose is buttery, on roasted nuts, lime and white strawberry, table wax, has a steady depth. This is a bit New Wave on the palate, moves easily, lacks a little depth, but continues with some fresh saltiness and assertion, keeps going after its quiet attack. The flavour is nutty, peach stone. 2015

firm yellow robe. The bouquet comes with a spring in its step, gives cooked orange, cooked lemon, with ginger snap, has a breezy freedom above some solid fruit. The palate is well assembled thanks to its solid richness and its fresh flanks. There is a spiced presence, and it reflects a good take on Marsanne, the freshness helpful. This is very New Wave wine – it is all over quickly; it holds mild white fruit, but lacks grip and purposeful extension. 2013

yellow, some shine. Has a ginger, spiced air led by Marsanne, also shows a curry powder tang, lemon grass. There is prominent spice on the palate, which has a cooked orange, nicely weighted depth. It ends on some sweet roundness. Drink with food such as chicken in sauce, root vegetable soups. Has a neat finish, well collected. Fair cut here. Orange marmalade again shows on the aftertaste. 13°. The palate has limited juice, is all very tight, close-knit. It shows some laurel and herbs late on. It lacks openness, flair. The end is quiet, correct. Decant this. OK, but . . . 2012 ()

shiny yellow robe. Elderberry, light air of flan, with walnut – the bouquet has a gritty aspect, is restrained. The palate is also versed in mineral, greengage plum, lime flavours. It isn’t really firing fully, but has Saint-Péray typicity in its coolness, and captures the freshness of the year. It is stylish more than  powerful, but skips a beat or two. The exit is clear, aniseed-fuelled. Decant this. 13.1°. To 2019  Nov 2013

2011 ()

yellow, some legs down the glass. Has a peach jam, fleshy white fruit aroma, airs of greengage plum and a light, fresh snap about it, butter and white strawberry notes. The palate delivers white stone fruit, honeysuckle flowers; has a gracious, fat style, with notable smoothness of texture a prime feature. The precise flavours involve lime marmalade, with honey and oil or wax after that. After the tasty mid to late palate, it ends on grip, wee burn or tang. I like the variety in this, with nudges of verbena and lavender to broaden the canvas. 13.5°. To 2019  Nov 2012

2010

fair yellow colour; honey, nut and spice air, has a tang of apricot, dried fruit, white plum and there are grainy airs on top of that. The palate is compact, grips tightly – this is a full, furnished wine that needs time and decanting. The flavour has mandarin and nut in it, but is wrapped in on itself. Has the structure to live and be more open, too. A wine of potential, can improve. From late 2012. 13.5°. 2019-20 Nov 2011

2009 ()

tinted yellow. Pear-apple aroma, a nose that takes in aniseed or petrol, wax, honeycomb. Firm palate that has nerve, is tight-knit, reserved, leads to a steely finale. Better if left until 2012. Decant this. 13.1°. Harvested 9 Sept. “It was very pear at first, very ripe, but it is settling now. My worry in 2009 was too much volume on the attack of the white wines,” François Villard. 2016-17 March 2011 Previously July 2010 ***(*) concentrated yellow colour; super-pongy nose here – get that: it is on the move now, smells of fermentation, the bouquet cannot be judged. The palate, however, is rich, has a white raisin flavour, light notes of honey and nougat. There is a fine grain inside it. Salty grip late on, with a solid, secure finish. Decant this to give it lots of air, and the nose will be OK. From spring 2011. 2016-17 July 2010

2008

full, glowing yellow; lime, saffron aroma – the bouquet is agreeably full, broad and open. This is easy to drink – the texture is attractive, gives a smooth and clear run of white fruit, followed by a late, fine salty late tang. Very good charm. Capital, Doctor Watson. w.o.w. wine. It has indeed settled since last tasted eight months ago. To 2016. July 2010 Previously Nov 2009 **(*) ½ bottle: mild yellow; the nose is forward – has a fresh outer, an oily inner with a crisp top note, mild haxelnut in the air. The palate starts briskly, runs straight out of the gate. It pauses, then regains length and gras, also poise. Has dried fruits, apple flavours, but I find it edgy for now – it needs nine months to settle. There is a little layer of honey on this. 13°. 2016-17 Nov 2009 “2007 was better – it had more alcohol, and was gourmand,” F.Villard.

2007 ()

full bouquet, with a refinement in its white fruits as well. Good freshness on the palate, its oak nicely integrated, has sound body. It keeps going well, and shows some of the local minerality. 13.7°. 2015-16 March 2009

2006

light yellow colour; has a buttered, quite stylish aroma, with some pear and dried fruits such as apricot present, and the local tang. The palate flows freely, with a good sequence throughout, a fresh-toned freedom. This is well made, a wine of some style. The length is good, and it ends on a mix of dried fruit, honey and a wee saltiness, which suggests some Roussanne. Beau vin, ace for the aperitif, or refined foods. 13.5°.
