The Wines

Syrah (mid-1990s) from stony marl alluvial terrace soils, hand harvested, destemmed, 25 day steel vat vinification, part vat emptying/refilling, pumping overs, aged 40% oak casks, 60% steel vat 6-8 months, unfiltered, "drink with pizza, grilled meats, vegetable tian", has been called Les Terrasses (2015), 5,000 b

dark, sustained robe. The nose is up front, currently on oak varnish more than fruit, though there lies hidden a small trail of blackberry. The palate holds lusty black fruit content with the oak around the outside, has enough heart to evolve correctly. The oaking could have been more tender. This has shape, though, so allow until mid-2020, and hope for infusion. It ends with a brief surge of its fruit, and the inevitable oaking. It is bottled already. 12.5°. 2028-29. Dec 2018

clear, quite dark red. There is a fine line of black fruit from the bouquet, with oak surrounds and smoke from them. The palate is quiet, bears black fruits, blueberry fruits with mild tannins, a little support from them. It is a clear, low-key Crozes, perfectly correct, could have a bit more body, is suited to duck breast, veal chop in rosemary.  13.5°. 2020-21 Nov 2017

(casks/vat) sober, full robe. Green oak leads on the nose, with a stewed black stone fruits backdrop. The palate has a lush style, with a gras based on its ripe, slightly “high” fruit. The finish tightens up, and leaves dryness. This has work to do before bottling, to soften and to extend away from its oak raising, plus a suggestion of extraction. 13°. 5,000 b.
