Syrah (2002) now from 1.5 hectare (before mid 2010s was from 0.6 hectare) schist soil plot at Seyssuel, 90% destemmed, 3 week vinification, pumping overs, cap punchings, malo in oak cask, aged 50% new, 50% 1-2 year 228-litre oak casks 18 months, fined, unfiltered, 5,400-6,000 b


(casks, bottling March 2020) dark red; the nose is joli, has a mineral zest underlay, black cherry fruit. The palate gives iron, black fruits with a neat centre, with style in its gras. It continues with a near savoury tone, oak included, finishes juicily. It will be good, stylish, modern, but comes with local touches from the schist, as do most Seyssuels. (casks) dark red; a sleek red cherry fruit air leads the nose, raspberry also, has sunny styling. The palate gives mineral threaded red berry fruit, elegant tannins, has a good way of going, builds into a joli flourish at the end, is plumptious there. This is stylish, assured, beau, above its station. 12.5°. €20.50 export. From mid-2020. 2031-33 Nov 2018

2010 ()

dark-tinted red colour. There is a smoky top air, a more grounded bottom air in the nose, crushed berries, ripe blackberries in it. The palate is modern, on the go, cassis blackcurrant flavoured, plenty in it. The mid-palate is oily, good. It reaches out with supple but noticeable tannins. This will please drinkers – it delivers fruit with a textured ease in it. 13°. 2022-24  Sept 2012

2009 ()

full red. Spice-gunflint air – it is breezy, and waiting to form together. The palate is tight-knit, has a “steely” start, a very schist-graphite texture and tang. Marked wire or nerve runs all through it, a true child of this rocky schist outcrop. From 2013, needs patience. I would especially drink around 2016. £36 in GB. 2025-27 March 2011


good, full red. Vivid, live red berry fruit aroma with bouncy appeal, has nutty, smoky sides. Perfumato, present fruit on the palate with red berry, flair. It closes down on the finish, ends compactly. OK now, but more on the finish from spring 2012. Can be decanted. I note a high 15° - this vineyard is a hot spot. 2022-23 March 2011
