80% Grenache (1930s), 20% 12 other red & white varieties from very sandy above blue marl soils, destemmed, 3 week vinification, regular pumping overs, aged underground concrete vats 18-24 months, filtered, 3,000 b


(vat) dark red colour. The nose gives airs of blackberry, loganberry with a little note of baking, black olives. The palate bears strength under the smooth surface, has a liqueur, coulis style to its black fruits. The tannins are fine and well in the wheel of the wine. I pick up on the degree to some extent, even though it is largely well camouflaged. The finish is rounded, smooth, with a red cherry flavour. 14.5°. 5,000 b. Allow until 2020-21. 2034-37 Oct 2017

2013 ()

(vat, bottling April 2015) bright purple colour. There is a hint of chocolate on the nose, then succulent fruit on the palate, which is juicy and pure. It holds firm but refined tannins on the finish, and they give it length and persistence. This has both power and elegance. 15°. From 2017. 2028-29 JL Dec 2014


shiny dark red robe, is inviting. The bouquet has a roast meat, reductive nature, bears spice and cooked plums, prune airs, a hint of raspberry coulis. The palate works well on the smoothness of its texture, the old vines’ sap offering a feathery caress. There is strength here, a ground force, but it has the clear delineation of the vintage, and hence a certain purity, at its heart. It will gain in expression as it goes, carries punch, notes of mixed herbs, ends on glow. Decanting advised. 15°. 2036-38 Oct 2018


shiny dark red robe, a hint of advance at the top. The nose has a roast meat, beef aroma with sweet herbs, bay leaf, a line of shiny black fruits attached. This works well on the texture from the off, the silk of old vines’’ content. Its strength comes well from within, and the length is assured, shapely. This is pedigree Gigondas, with very good carry along the palate. The finish brings notes of date, spice, thick but fluid juice. The balance is right on the money here. 15°. 2042-44 Oct 2018
