The Wines

100% Grenache (much 1910, all centenarian in 2010) from 2-3 plots on Saint Gayan beside the domaine, whole bunch fermentation, about 50% crop not crushed to achieve a maceration effect, 4-5 week vinification at 26-29°C until 1020, when allowed to rise to 30°C, mainly part vat emptying/refillings, also pumping overs, earthen jar raised 24 months, fined, unfiltered

2017 ()

(earthen jar) dark red robe. The nose comes with a meat stock aroma, a raspberry coulis centre. The palate runs with implicit power, carries a Grenache red-fruited centre, with some knuckled tannins around the outside. It offers purity, the finish on the lightly chewy side. I detect a little note of spirit within. This accentuates fruit above all. 14.5°. 100% Grenache. From 2021. 2037-39 Oct 2018

2016

(jar) bold, shiny dark red. The bouquet is vivid, well-filled, bounds around with coursing raspberry fruit, a thick strawberry jam aroma. It’s dense. The palate is lined with solid red berry matter, bears gummy, layered tannins that add a firm, integrated couch to the late stages. This is very promising, has class and heart. It goes well long, has a flourish in the making there. The aftertaste shows pepper, spicing, dry trails. This is very concentrated. From 2025. 2046-49 Oct 2018
