2018

(large barrel) dark robe; the bouquet is a swirling affair, mixes oak-charcoal with free run black berry fruits, black olives, is a Southern bucket of bounty, has some deft salting. The palate sets off with a run of lissom black fruit content, has well judged ripeness, no excess, ends with the juice nice and fluid. The tannins are ripe, and fit in pretty well. This is up tempo Gigondas with good dash in its delivery. The aftertaste brings in black olives, tapenade. It shows that the high areas did well this year, with the mildew lower down. 75% Gren, 15% Syr, 5% Mourv, 5% Cins. €27.5 at the cellars. From 2022. 2042-44 Feb 2020

2016

(vat, bottling Sept 2018) intense robe, mainly black, a little purple, legs visible. The nose is square-shaped, has a suave aroma of well-ripened blackberry and black cherry with some savoury depth beyond. The palate is smooth on the outside, pugnacious and firm on the inside, takes no prisoners. Its strength continues into a full finish with spicing and some firm, currently assertive tannins there. This is big, broad wine that requires leaving until 2021-22. It will go well with duck breast, venison in juniper berries, since there is an ear juniper flash just before the finish. 15°. 23,400 b. 75% Gren, 15% Syr, 10% Mourv, Cins. €17.70. 2033-35 Oct 2017

2013 ()

pretty full red robe. The bouquet gives a close-knit, simmered red fruits air, a little darkness in them that leads towards blueberry and a nudge of licorice. The palate holds brewed black stone fruits, a note of prune. It is slightly dry towards the finish, which is chunky, firm. It lacks real lift. 14°. 11,500 b. €17.20. From 2017. 2023-24  Dec 2015

2010

(cask) shiny, full red. The bouquet bears red fruit that is grilled, has a baked bread note and an air of green olive like Picholine, sizzled pork and bacon, sweet notes. Tasty, enjoyable red fruit runs off the attack; there is supple and stroking gras in it, and live, nutty tannins are mixed into its red cherry, Grenache fruit on the finish. Will be longer and show more brio from mid-2014. Has gritty late moments, may be starting to intensify and lose puppy fat. 2029-30 Dec 2011

2004

mild red; red fruit aroma, spice, a touch of high tone – the nose is a little edgy. The palate fruit gains as it goes, becoming more ample and rich than at the start. There is red berry sweetness as it ends. Still young and crisp. From late 2008. 2015-16  Dec 2006

2001 ()

broad bouquet - red fruits, herbal. Sound, clear cut fruit on palate, rolls along well, tidy wine. More refined than the Signature, its fruit is agreeable and persists well. Wide enough towards the finish, has character. Sound wine. 2013-15 July 2005
