Syrah from granite soils at Tournon, destemmed, 4 week vinification (2-3 weeks until 2004), malo in oak, aged 50% new, 50% 2-4 year 228-litre & 400-litre oak casks 14-18 months, unfined, filtered, first wine 2016


(casks) the nose is smoky, replete, on simmered black berry fruits, a note of cassis liqueur on board. It carries the fineness of Tournon. The palate is all together, a compact, well-tuned ball of minted content for now, black berry fruits, loganberry for example, emerging towards the finish. The texture is suave, the juice concerted, firm. It has a sound tannic frame, so can evolve well. From 2023, decant it. 2040-42 Nov 2019

2016 ()

(casks) deep dark red, black centred robe. The bouquet has good inner richness, a centre of stewed red berries, traces of oak smoke, tang, on the outside. The palate delivers immediate oily content fuelled by black cherry fruits, a well-ripened run of tannins streaming into the second half, which has a dance of life, lovely definition, in it. This is promising, genuine St Jo, which has great heart. From spring 2020 to allow the oak to infuse, then serve in a large glass, appreciate its fullness, and drink with beef dishes. 2026-28 Nov 2017
