The Wines

Syrah from Les Mazards, Reynards, Saint-Pierre, destemmed, 4-5 week concrete vat vinification, cap punching, aged 20% new, 80% 1-2 year 228-litre oak casks 16-18 months, malo in oak

2017

(casks) dark, full robe; the nose is filled with ripe, polished raspberry fruit, comes with an inky aspect, a persistent note of cool blue fruit and smoky oak underneath. It’s a pretty large start. The palate runs directly, seasoned with peppery dark red berry fruited content, is a little spare on the close. The tannins are pointed, the oak smoky, and those two elements need to fuse. There is a floral note on the aftertaste. It’s a little bit functional. From mid-2021. 2038-40 Dec 2018
