60% Grenache, 40% Syrah from slopes at Orsan, Saint-Denis, Les Espijades, destemmed, 2-3 week vinification at 28°-30°C, pumping overs, part vat emptying/refilling, aged 33%.3% each new-1-2 year 228-litre oak casks 12 months (until early 2010s was aged aged 50% large 40 hl barrels, 50% new-1-2-3 year oak 228-litre casks 8-12 months), fined, filtered, “drink with lamb with black olive tapenade, truffled fillet of beef, wild mushroom risotto, beef tartare, chocolate dishes”, 35-65,000 b


red robe, a little matt in its tone; the bouquet is all together, carries ripe weight, layered aromas that accumulate, licorice, roast coffee beans. The palate sets off well, is broad and solid, runs steadily, has vintage abundance and a firm build up of content. It’s juicy within, and both balance and length are good. It’s handsome, superior Laudun, with successful Syrah central, its fruit sleek. 14.5°. 2033-35 May 2020

2015 ()

bright, quite full red robe. The nose has a curvy aroma, sweet cherry fruit with liqueur connotations, licorice. It shows Syrah at its centre. It is effusive, open already, uncomplicated. The palate delivers tasty, well juiced black cherry fruit and fine grain tannins along the sides after half way. The finish holds a little plump gras. This has good drinkability, is a w.o.w. wine with polished tannins and enough coolness to invite a second glass. There are touches of dried herbs on the finish. There are tarry, non Grenache influences from the Syrah and the oak. 14°. 2020-21 Jan 2017


red robe, slightly lighter top. A pine-oak thrust starts the nose, and I wonder why there was so prominent a use of it in this sometimes dilute vintage. There is prune, light sweetness behind. It’s not a really convincing kick-off. The palate gives some medium weight, smoky black fruit, the oak still right alongside. I feel this should have been made as an easy, elegant, non-oaked wine rather than trying to use oak to bulk it up. It’s not coherent, and the finish is sticky. 14°. To 2018  June 2016 Previously Oct 2015 ***(*) (casks) quite a dark red. The nose is coolly fruited, has a clear tang of blackberry, blueberry, with some charcoal, possible oak. The palate is salty, runs with direct, slightly peppered fruit, has a menthol leaning towards the finish. This has an upbeat gusto about it, with vintage accuracy. It needs to calm its crunchy finish. 14.5°. 35,000 b. €8.50. From 2017. 2021-22  Oct 2015 

2010 ()

dark red; tangy, tobacco air with a flint, silex, menthol “clack”. The palate also has a coffee bean style debut, is more mineral than fat. Has a full, searching searching style – there is even chocolate in the flavour. Sipping, not free drinking wine. Has a firm, tight-knit length. A tendency towards high octane – be warned. solid, quite dark red; plum, mulled fruits nose – sappy, simmered interior, with upright airs from its oak. Stone red fruit debut to the palate, then gains in grip as it goes – the Syrah influence, and stretches out to a clear finale. Black cherry flavour in mid-palate. The aftertaste summons bacon, smoked oak. Time will soften its finish. From spring 2009. 13.5°. To 2013. Nov 2008
