2016 ()

plum red, very Grenache robe, a light top rim. The nose is tarry, smoky, coolly fruited with an ingrained air of black pepper, sweet cassis fruit with a nudge of blueberry, a note of iodine, damp seaweed. This is expressive, leads on spiced plum fruit, very Grenache-centric, has a peony-rose angle as well. It holds fluid gras, a nugget of that. The tannins have a little bite, a clack of clarity which brings in some rockiness, as if it came from such lands with limestone mixed in. This is naked and unadorned Côtes du Rhône; the finish will be rounder, and away from its current graininess, by spring to mid-2018. It is more spinal than most 2016s. 13°. 2021-22  July 2017

2014 ()

modest red robe. The nose has a plum fruit air, but is lying low, centres on Grenache. The palate bears red, strawberry fruit which is a mix of soft and brittle, its tannins smoked and dry in tone. There is a vegetal side to this, and it is low on stuffing. It requires food to attend to its somewhat stiff feel. 13°. 50% Gren, 25% Syr, 15% Mourv, 10% Cins. 2017-18  Jun 2015

2012

2 bottles tasted: 1st bottle: fair red robe. Baked, unconvincing nose. The palate is packed in, yeasty, leesy. No go. Bottle 2: has a grainy nose, bears elderflower, loose red fruit, cherry. It is baked in nature, and improves and integrates with air. The palate starts with lightweight blackberry fruit that skims through the palate, offering a light dusting of tannin at the end. It slides along more than delving in depth, is a little pinched. Air improves its roundness, renders it more wholesome. The palate shows better than the nose. It lasts rather well, has a savoury exit. Chiselled style at its heart. As a biodynamic wine, it requires careful handling.13°. To 2017. 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, 10% Cinsault this year. May 2013

2011

simple, attractive red; the nose is pretty – simple, natural, floral and appealing. “Tender” is the word, backed by the word “subtle”. Flowers and red fruits feature. The palate runs in similar vein, is really drinkable, a w.o.w. wine. It bears fine red fruit built around the Grenache. There is a good entrance of late, well-done, slightly dusty tannins. It flows well, has no make-up or falseness. Great with grills, cutlets of lamb with rosemary, excellent with saucisson, salami. Great value at Monoprix in France, €5.50. 13°. To 2015  Sept 2012

2010

dark red, black tints. Blackcurrant stem, green stems air, coffee and black pepper also. Has a cassis bud flavour with a slightly dry finale. The texture is a bit stretched after half way, the second half is curly. Try decanting. 13°. To 2014 July 2011

2007

full, dark red; raisin-nutty baked fruits aroma – prune. Direct shape on the attack, which skips a beat. Very Grenache style to this – its black fruits run straight out, are live. An active wine of OK length. Mint, licorice combo in a clear finale. Food best. 13°. 2011-12 Feb 2009 Previously Jan 2009 ** quite a dark red robe that is starting to evolve. Heather, leather aroma with a violet air as well. The palate is brewed red fruits affair, carrying a line of tannin that is a little dry. This needs more flesh. The aftertaste is peppery. To 2011. Jan 2009

2005 ()

soft, middling red colour. Nut, red fruit aroma, is reserved, with a little licorice and herb coming through with the air. Has an oily black fruit, maybe Mourvèdre influence. Soft start to palate, its fruit is well ingrained, and the tannins arrive on cue. Nice little structure here. The fruit is smoky, bouncy and decisive, and there is a crisp character to the wine. Not for fruit pastille lovers. I much like its clear tone. Softens after a day. Can drink solo. 2010-11 Feb 2007
