2018

this is Côtes du Rhône, not Vin de France: red robe. Red cherry-raspberry feature in an insistent aroma, a good plunge of the South in the glass. The palate swirls with red berries, good hither and thither flow, and a bracing coolness after half way, the close aromatic. There’s sound body on the attack. This is very joli, w.o.w. wine. 85% Gren, 15% Syr. VALUE at €10 at the cellars. To 2023 Feb 2020 Previously Feb 2019 ***(*) this is 25% Joncier crop, 75% Costières de Nîmes, hence the Vin de France. “It was a last minute decision to buy the harvest, which was from organic young Grenache vines,” Marine Roussel. The final blend is 85% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and there are 20,000 bottles, half the usual. The robe is a medium depth red; there’s a soft strawberry aroma, which is coy, but joli. Very likeable fruit features on the attack, sweet-toned red fruits, strawberry, with light spicing. This is a tender wine, well suited to grills. To 2021 Feb 2019

2017 ()

Côtes du Rhône as usual this year: bright red robe. Has a smoky, brambly fruits air, the cut of cigarette ash. The palate gives lightly fragrant red fruits, some salt zest, has a steady length. It’s a bit subdued, “on the steel”. Drink with barbecues, sauced dishes, too. The floral late touch is agreeable. 13.5°. 2022-23 Feb 2019

2016

red robe. The bouquet is well-filled, smoky, shows red berries, hedge fruits, crunch and smoke. This is well packed, close-knit Côtes du Rhône with character, no way a patsy. It holds good, concentrated cherry fruit, has a good tannic frame also. It’s still en route vis-à-vis its tannins. It’s interesting, aromatic, rather intellectual, a naked wine for la table. 2014

red robe, pale hues. Pepper, peony, delicate red berry fruit aroma on the nose. This is very soft drinking, holds kind red fruit juice. It’s plump, but flows well, is w.o.w. wine that gives bonny, effortless drinking, with good rocky touches. 14°. This bottled Jan 2016. To 2018  June 2016

2012

medium red, beau colour. The nose is fragrant but reserved, has quiet class, is spherical in shape. There is also an aromatic theme on the palate; the fruit has a bonny clarity, is accompanied by a fine tannin, a deft touch all round. Holds good Grenache red fruit. A pucker of late acidity keeps it fresh. Drink with grilled meats, strewn with herbes de Provence. 14°. 2017-18  Oct 2013

2011

sound red robe; Liquid fruit, mulled red cherry air – the nose is still on its primary notes, isn’t yet really varied, shows a little smokiness, some mixed herbs. It is very Grenache in style, and I like its potential (tasted blind). The palate flows with great appeal, the fruit fluid, clear-running, tasty. A good example of the charm and virtue of 2011. Good with country foods, casseroles. Has regional ID, is STGT, true wine. It really reaches out well on the palate. A spot of herbs such as thyme and lavender turn up on the aftertaste. Good with duck, for instance. 14°. 2016-17  May 2013  Previously March 2013 *** lucid red robe. This has a typical Gard, west bank aroma – there are dusty notes, licorice attached to a plump, ripe black fruit heart – a bonny verity here. There are ample amounts of thyme. There is a fine fibre, a wiry, hot stones thread through this – the product of a year when the depth is less than the best years. It ends on a dentelle clarity, with a little crunch there. It is very typical 2011 with its taper, lightening after half way. Pleasant for immediate drinking, a real easy goer. Solo OK, also country foods, pies. 14°. To 2015  March 2013
