40-60% Syrah, 40-60% Grenache (av age 35 years) from red clay, sandy, quartz galet stone soils at Lirac, Roquemaure & St Laurent-des-Arbres, destemmed, crushed, 30 day steel vat vinification at 25°C, pumping overs, daily part vat emptying/refilling, aged 50-80% concrete vat, 10-40% 3-year 228 & 10% 2-year 600-litre oak casks 12 months, unfined, filtered, “drink with a sauté of wild boar & wild mushrooms”, 28-30,000 b

2016 ()

dark red robe. Raspberry, cooked red fruits, notions of sweetness show on the nose; it is supple, extravagant, a little high octane, has notes of licorice. This softly, amply fruited with a raspberry-blueberry flavour, crisp tannin lined up towards the finish. It’s not yet all together, can fuse, and will be a Redondo drink, slightly on degree. It has a modern, rather plush style, isn’t a free drinker, is a wine of sultry richness. It holds up OK along the palate. 15°. 30,000 b. 58% Syr, 42% Gren. 20% oaked. €12.50. 2015 ()

regular red robe. Has a sweet, oaked modernista bouquet with mulled raspberries or liqueur, loganberry fruits. The palate bears textured, smooth gras with a plump centre. It’s an overtly fat, rounded Lirac with spicy Grenache plum fruit at its centre. The aftertaste is on fruit berry skins, some grain tannin, a burst of 2015 dryness. It’s slightly in transition, needs to soften the finish. It will be good with beef, has a meaty aftertaste. Its oak aids its length. 15°. 2022-23 Dec 2017

2014

quite a dark red; soaked cherries, red fruited first aroma, with a dusty backdrop. It is a little streaky rather than snug. The palate is fresh, marked by direct spears of fruit, with licorice and powder dust in the tannins. A bracing wine, with a spearmint clarity, very much thanks to the cool summer. It is light-bodied. Good with grilled foods, sausages, beef. 15°. To 2019. Feb 2016

2011 ()

dark red robe. Game, “lumpy” air that shows reduction, needs decanting. This shows some blueberry, has cool menthol notes also, grilled bacon. The palate has easy, spiced plum fruit, is mainstream over nuanced. Has a fat heart with inherent power building as it goes. I can’t drink a lot of this – a wine trying to do more than what comes naturally, I feel. Its fruit is ripe, mature, not lifted. 15°. 2017-18  May 2013
