The Wines

2009

lustrous, good, full dark red; cooked bacon, smouldering nose where reduction lurks and brings a farmyard, “high” note. There is an air of baked bread in it. The is sturdy, and has a cherry-infused, near kirsch, flavour. This is a big palate, still upright, really compact, close-knit. It holds good, deep-seated fruit, and isn’t yet fully declaring its wares. Licorice, vibrant late moments, has a tremble of fresh acidity there. Fresh, still a little inflexible, so is very Mourvèdre in style – good Mourvèdre typicity here. It is still on the back foot – no fours through extra cover yet. 15°. Patience with this will bring more wine, more quality, more pleasure. From 2015. 2024-27 Sept 2013
