The Wines

1999 Shiraz from 1 bn year red clay loam soils at Clarendon Hills

1999 ()

purple, bright and handsome robe. Raspberry liqueur nose, very concentrated – unusual for McLaren Vale – is close to the Rhône. Blackberry start to the palate, rolls along fluently, gains in iron towards the finish. There is a lot of late tannin clarity. A wine of interesting poise and structure – it gives a schist style of minerality, but there is no schist here – it is very decaying sandstone on this vineyard. 2024-27 Oct 2009
