The Wines

single-vineyard late 1960s Shiraz from McLaren Vale township, brown, sandy loam top soil, sandstone subsoils, aged 30% new, 70% 1-6 year old 300 & 500-litre oak casks 15-16 months, unfined, unfiltered

2006 ()

dark robe with a full heart. Earthy, violet, toffee, Pinot farmyard airs, also bears a hay, snappy side. There is a good link between nose and palate; its core fruit is refined with an intense ball of red berry at its centre. Keeps going well. Has a tight, once more fundamental, earthy nature at the end – which gives way to a raisin, date, rounded aftertaste. Decent balance here. 2021-23 Oct 2009 A$45-50
