The Wines

50-130 year Shiraz, mostly from Sea View, a little Blewitt Springs, aged 10-20% new, rest 1-10 years old 228-litre oak casks 20 months

2007

not far off ****** quality. Attractive raspberry red colour; violet, floral, baked graphite nose, cooked pepper here, too – it is smoky and long, with the fine black fruit mixing outcrops of schist, that graphite gun smoke. Tight knit black fruits lead the palate; there is a strong late infill, a seam of licorice mixed in with red fruits such as redcurrants. Good line of tannin in this, good complexity in the making. From 2012-13. 2033-36 Oct 2009. “I like the graceful ageing fruit floweriness and persistence of Blewitt Springs,” C.Osborn

2004

crisp black fruit, cordite aroma that sustains well, and has inviting soft, violet airs behind. The palate combines black fruit, chocolate, and gains an agreeable sweetness late on. It is steely and steady, and has a fine reserve about it. A sleeper wine, still reticent. From 2012. 2026-28 “It was very fragrant 6 months ago, not like it is today,” C.Osborn Oct 2009
