2018

(large barrel/casks, bottling Apr 2020) dark red; the nose is on a ripe trail, the fruit sweet and rather musky. There are notes of garrigue herbs, plums at its centre, Grenache the main influence. The palate also bears a typical spiced, crushed red fruits sweetness as the Grenache acts as its heart. The finish is a drawback - gummy, the tannins a little dry. It’s a country wine for stews, casseroles, is authentic enough. 15°. 6,500 b. 100% Gren. €33. From 2022-23 to bring it together more. 2039-41 Oct 2019

2017 ()

(large barrel/casks, bottling March 2019) dark, sustained red robe. Damson plum, raspberry coulis, concentrated fruit airs lead the nose. It’s not fully declared by any means, carries telltale 2017 notes of baking. The palate is immediately concentrated, with a savoury, oily fullness, a deeply set raspberry, mulberry fruit liqueur, kirsch, flavour. It lacks a little sparkle to disengage it from its prevalent strength; there’s a touch of eucalyptus in the mix, but not quite enough to liberate it. This could be Aussie wine, I have to say. 14.5°. 100% Gren. €32. From 2022. 2042-44 Oct 2018

2016 ()

(large barrel/casks, bottling March 2018) full red robe. This has an attractive nose thanks to its variety of prompts, raspberry fruit with some brio, musky flowers, dried herbs, oregano. The palate rolls along a savoury path, with appealing juiciness that sustains well into a spherical, lip smacking close. It has a very good centre of tempting fruit, and will please in a sunny, open way. It’s curvy and attractive, trumpets the qualities of the Grenache very well, is close to full-on STGT. It has a Burgundian finesse at its heart. 14.5°. From late 2019. 2034-36 Oct 2017

2015

typical Grenache mild red robe. Plum fruit with a sweet essence of strawberry lead the bouquet, a note of spice, nutmeg and dusty trails behind: it’s an extremely true portrait of the Grenache from a dry vintage at Châteauneuf. The palate is spicy and nicely rocky, has a freshness and verve that mark it out, the content fluid within. There are flashes of herbs along its path, and has integrity and truth. There is, for now, a cautious release of its red-fruited juice. It has a naked honesty. 15°. From 2020, decanting advised. 2034-37 Oct 2017
