2018 ()

dark red; the bouquet is not yet out and firing. There’s a smoky element above its considered mass of cooked, spiced plum fruit. The palate is well together, carries a likeable charge of red stone-fruited content with a wavy vigour in the tannins. It ends with some gunsmoke vegetal notes, that liberty helping it. It’s a genuine Vacqueyras. 13.8°. 17,330 b. 70% Gren, 15% Syr, 15% Mourv. €11.40. From 2021. 2033-35 Feb 2020

2016

plum red robe. Beefstock, smoky airs on the nose, dried herbs, slight note of arid lands. The palate is stretched back, for now releases only a small dose of black juice, with a date, cooked fig angle in the flavour. It lacks the freedom of expression of the best wines this year, grinds along in a relatively muddled way. The dry feel late on is a concern, but there is some density in the juice. 15°. 23,600 b. 75% Gren, 15% Mourv, 10% Syr. From late 2019. 2027-29 Feb 2018

2015 ()

(vat) shiny, quite dark red robe. The nose gives a flattering aroma of raspberry and strawberry fruit delivered with some ease of sweetness.  The palate is broad on the attack, pretty well charged with a ball of rather rich spiced red berry content; that leads into a cooler pocket of licorice-inspired tannins, the length ticking over. This is a down the line Vacqueyras, pretty authentic with its crunch of spice and slightly raw tannins. 14°. From mid-2018. 2027-28 March 2017

2013

medium depth red robe. Red jam, mild, rouch sweetly aired nose which is also lightly peppered. The palate is granular, offers red fruit with a close-in tannin, that is not a restraint on the wine, as it ends. A low-key Vacqueyras, with clarity and decent length. 14.5°. 2012

(vat) subdued dark red colour. The nose has an easy, sweet fragrance, an air of liquid raspberry with tarragon, laurel – it presents a simple smile. The palate centres on open gourmandise, isn’t complicated or mysterious, features squeezy berry fruits. It tapers a little as it ends, drops there. It will be a neat bundle once bottled. Steady wine, but it lacks that bit extra to grab the drinker. From spring 2015. 14.5°. 24,000 b. 2021-22 Dec 2013

2011 ()

rather fragile sober red colour. The bouquet is ready now, is round and a bit simple, quite fat, has a sweet red fruit heart. The palate lacks true Vacqueyras body, has a little charm, is a table drinker, apt for bistrot and restaurant drinking. It builds some smoky tannin and extra depth on the finish. Suited to dishes such as pork in fruits, lamb. Has a light white pepper exit. Middle of the road wine. 14.5°. 29,000 b this year. To 2018  May 2013

2010

dark plum robe, legs. The nose has a coated, creamy, round cassis liqueur and cooked plum air, spots of licorice in it. The debut on the nose is round and open, pretty full. The palate is smoothly textured, bears liqueur fruit, is supple but deep, and develops more wild, unrestrained, dark tannins, ending on a mix of tar and charcoal. Plenty of wine here. Drink with lamb in herbs such as rosemary, or tajine. Good, punchy delivery, very attractive abundance and freedom of flavour here. 14.5°. From late 2014. 21,500 b this year. 2026-27  May 2013  Previously Feb 2012 **** (vat) dark robe, shine in it. Has a beating sun air on the nose, its red fruit with a touch of the liqueur in its fullness, is very, very southern. The palate is broad from the start, is a solid citizen that bears brewed black fruit, and some reduction. This is vigorous wine that shows plenty of terrace ripeness in it. Its tannins are a little grainy just now, offer it long-term support. This has character. From 2014. 15°. 2022-23 Feb 2012

2008 ()

quite deep robe. Black raisin front aroma, with honey, caramel lying with a steady red fruit air. Tight, rather unyielding palate; its tannins surge forward early, are persistent, rather cooked. Rather a got-up wine, under difficulty. From 2011. To 2016. July 2010

2007

red, evolving robe. Strawberry aroma that is clear but the fruit is simple, while there is a good hum of baked outcrops in the bouquet. The palate also gives a simple delivery of red fruit with a ticking-over centre or infill. It runs straight along, is workmanlike but genuine and local wine, to its credit. It persists on herbs and fennel, ends successfully. 2016-17 July 2010
