The Wines

60-80% Grenache (early 1980s), 20-40% Syrah (early 1980s), from galet stone covered clay soils with limestone on Le Taulier, destemmed, 3 week vinification, pumping overs, cap punching, raised 80-100% concrete vat, 0-20% used oak casks 12 months, fined, filtered, 4,800-6,000 b

(vat) fair red robe. Strawberries and plums feature in the nose, which is a bit simple. The palate is also low-key, holds mild red fruits, doesn’t leave a full Rasteau imprint. OK, but limited in scope. 15°. 4,800 b. 70% Gren, 30% Syr. 100% concrete vat raised. €5.50 export. From 2017. To 2021. May 2016

2014 ()

(vat/casks) medium depth red robe; dark red berry aroma with a note of meatiness. The palate is a little restricted in depth, gives a clear, raspberry flavour with slightly lean tannins. It holds Grenache fruit at its heart, is not at all forced along, is just a bit quiet. Honest wine. 60% Gren, 40% Syrah. 15°. 5,700 b. €11 export.  2019-20  Apr 2015

2012 ()

quite a dark red; there is an air of pine in a slightly stretched bouquet, has a gummy red fruit aroma, and a note of brewed tea. The palate is on reduction, and also lacks freshness. It is powdery and peppery, with a small wave of gras and fruit near the finish. It doesn’t send a great message. 15°. 6,000 b. 70% Gren, 30% Syr. €11.80 export. To 2019  Apr 2015

dark red, wee black tints. There is a question mark about the nose – raspberry, black fruit jelly with smoke and also herb touches, a “high” note – it seems facile. The palate has a “pongy”, rather lactic flavour with sourness in it, which is obviously putting-off. There is prune-black fruit at its centre, the texture largely smooth. Not really balanced. 80% Gren, 20% Syr. To 2018. €5.16 export. May 2012
