The Wines

100% Syrah (1988), destemmed, 3 week vinification, pumping overs only, aged new 600-litre oak casks 24+ months, unfined, filtered, first wine 1998, then 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, 1,500-2,400 b, down from 6,000 b in early 2000s

2007 ()

(new 600 litre cask) dark robe; gamey, reductive aroma – oily, violet, damp notes; ripe black fruit lead on the palate, but it lacks purpose and spring in its step. Oak prevails at the end and props it up. A wine that is in limbo, wait and see how it goes. The finish is firm. From 2011. 2017-18 Nov 2009

2006 ()

firm dark robe; good, alert front nose – blackberry, soft violet airs that continue into the attack of the palate – that comes with plaint fruit and supple juice. The aftertaste is oaked. Finding its feet. From spring 2011, and of course less oak from 2012. 2018-19 Nov 2009

2001

gamey, fundamental nose; the palate bears black, damson and cherry fruit, with the oak inlaid. It runs on quite well on the palate, has a solid, tarry end. It shows OK now. 2013-14 July 2005
