firm yellow robe; tropical fruits, ripe peach on the nose, which gives immediate engagement, an air of orange peel from the Marsanne, toasting from the oak. The palate is tight, taut, very New Wave, on a wire, is bracing – Marsanne with not an ounce of spare flesh. You have to like this rigorous style; the bouquet announces more richness than the palate delivers. Dried fruits, tangerine feature in the flavour, late ginger snap. It gains more poise, a touch more weight with a cod brandade, but does not go with scallops/St Jacques. It’s so pared back, so wow! - when did Julien harvest this – in 2018, it must have been mid-August! 12°. It will probably live OK. 2029-31 Dec 2019
