shiny, bold dark red; the nose carries reduction, with a deep inset of black fruits, sweet black lozenges. The palate moves directly, is flanked by streams of cherry fruit, leading into a more rocky finale, where the tannins congregate and are chewy, assertive - they need a couple of years. dark red colour; the nose is reduced, so needs air, has a stewed, brothy air of black stone fruits, with some musky rose attached; it’s on the sweet side. The palate is open, sweet and commercial in style, very easy access, based on red fruits, cooked plum fruit. The tannins are furry but do not stand outside. It’s a mainstream St Jo that finishes a tiny bit stringy, with some spicing, is suited to stews, for example. It is bottled already. 13.5°. 2024-25 Dec 2018
(vat/casks) shiny, quite dark red colour. The nose is marked by the lees, is very primary, has a red fruited aroma within, a sense of oak charcoal. The palate suggests almost a Vin Nature, has a perlant, near fermenting feel to it, cassis leaf and black fruits together. Its acidity is live. dark red robe. The nose comes forward on reduction, with a plump, sweet air of blackberry and road tar. Decanting advised. The palate gives a coursing run of black berry fruit with some salted tannins that have a slightly pointed edge. This is coolly fruited, crisp wine with a bit of a technical edge to it. (cask/vat) dark robe. Has a sweet-toned black berry fruit aroma, a touch of rose hip present: a soft, calm start. The palate likewise holds easy, open black berry fruit which sets the tone all through. To drink now, with the fruit supple and the tannins lightly dusted. Does a sound job for the short-term.
